Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Atman.
Ann, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Born and raised in Ukraine, I grew up in a household that cherished music. As a child, I was studious, obedient, and quietly dreamed of becoming a model. To please my parents, who wanted me to do “serious things”, I graduated from Donetsk National Music Academy and went on to get a Master’s degree in Economics and Trade from Donetsk National University.
In 2014 I moved to Kiev and began a modelling career, meanwhile continuing main job as an economist in the city. However, the political situation in Ukraine continued to deteriorate due to Russian military intervention. I lived through the tension and in 2015, tragedy occurred when I lost my fiancé, who was killed during military incidents in Donetsk. As life in Ukraine grew more unbearable, I accepted a work offer from a modelling agency in Paris and decided to move to France.
Starting a new chapter in France beside modelling jobs, I began to explore my passion for DJ-ing by playing sets during private events at Paris Fashion Week. From these exclusive sets, I began to get noticed and was soon invited to play in top underground nightclubs. Within one year of living and working in Paris, my DJ career began to take off, with my name gaining popularity on the electronica scene. Opportunities to play in other countries cropped up, and before long, I was playing sets at party hotspots around the world including Ibiza, Tulum, Croatia, Dubai, Goa and so on.
In 2017 I was invited to DJ in United States for the first time during Miami Music Week. After falling in love with it, I took a leap of faith and moved to the USA. Since then, I’ve lived and worked in the US, spinning regularly in Miami, New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and performing at music festivals such as Burning Man, TimesLess, Okeechobee, etc.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all, not smooth, not easy but far not boring. It was my life path challenge and fascinating adventure! The main struggle was – my own doubts.
