Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Tavío.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m originally from Caracas, Venezuela. I lived there until I was sixteen. I’ve always been passionate about food. I grew up eating delicious! My mom is an architect, chef and sommelier. She would always cook amazing food and also plate it in a spectacular way. It wasn’t until I moved to Miami, Florida in 2010, because of the hard situation in my country, that I started cooking, I would always just eat my mom’s food! Lol!
When I moved here, I didn’t have many friends as a senior in high-school, so I started cooking with my mom for fun. My big passion at the moment was the fashion industry. I studied and graduated from Fashion Design school. My hobby was cooking, but I would normally do it during the weekends when I was free and cook for my boyfriend. Working in the Fashion Industry took a lot of long nights and traveling, and as a couple of years went by, I noticed that even though it was something I loved, I didn’t see myself in that lifestyle for the rest of my life. I took a few steps back and tried to merge my two passions of fashion and cooking. I created “Style Meets Food”, an Instagram blog that showcased the clothes I wore and the food I cooked. It was so much fun while it lasted, but I would always find myself having much more content for food than styling.
During that time, I was working freelance with a fashion production company based in Los Angeles in the creative staging department and doing food caterings with my mom’s company. I got married and moved in with my husband, which is my high-school sweetheart. I started cooking everyday, several times a day and taking pictures and videos of the things I cooked and posted them on my personal Instagram account until one day, I decided to create ” YUM, let’s eat! “. A special place to share my endless love for food. I started it for fun, and as a couple of months went by, I decided to turn my hobby into my work. I did caterings that went amazing, but they took a lot of my time to work on recipes and creating content, which is what I’m most passionate about. So, I decided to focus mainly on that to create and work on the things I love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Well, it’s only been a few of months since I decided to transform my hobby into a business. So, thankfully, I haven’t had any big struggles along the way yet, but it’s been hard work. Long hours of creating recipes, testing them out. Taking pictures and editing them. Writing the recipes and the blogs posts. Working on the web page and scouting products to sell. Plus, the worst part, cleaning the kitchen. It looks like a tornado past when I’m done, lol!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with YUM, Let’s Eat! – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
“YUM, let’s eat!” is a space to get inspired and get cooking! I’ve always said that cooking is a great way to demonstrate love and to share a little piece of yourself with others. So, its definitely a way to get ideas, try new things and share it with your loved ones.
YUM, let’s eat! is known for sharing recipes, by not only giving you a list of ingredients and a word-process but by showing you with pictures and videos each step of the process. Also, ways to present those recipes in a unique, creative way and setting the table beautifully.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am currently working on my web page and blog not only to share my recipes better but also to sell products, for instance, my mom’s cookbook, plates, plating tools, and more. What has me the most excited is a product I am working on. Hopefully people will enjoy it as much as I do… We’ll see what the future holds. It’s been and exciting ride!
