Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Briceno.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I studied Fashion Design in Caracas. After finishing my studies in Venezuela, I went to New York to deepen and expand my knowledge about the world of fashion. I took several courses at Parsons Institute of Design and during the two years I was in NYC, I also had the opportunity to work for two of the best designers in my country who have been established in this city for many years. Ángel Sánchez and Carolina Herrera. Having worked for these two designers apart from having taught me a lot about what it is and design helped me to know more deeply all the processes within a design company.
After having spent two years in the fashion capital, I had the opportunity to go to Milan for a semester to take a Master in Fashion Merchandising at the Marangoni Institute.
After a few years of experience, I decided to return to Venezuela and make way for my first venture, starting with a store in the city of Barquisimeto. “Athiopica was what was known as a “concept store” where there was a mix of garments complemented by my designs, national and international designs. There was a wide variety of products for women and the home. ”
With ups and downs in the store, without having another option I decided to close it after nine years and see this new exit as an opportunity to continue doing what I am passionate about. I moved to Miami and decided to complement my studies in Fashion Merchandising at the Art Insitute in Miami, which opened a new path in design and began to involve me in Interior Design and Visual Merchandising.
“I have three years working in interior design and organization, offering specific organizational and style results that harmonize the rooms, also conceptualize them in the style of each person, reflecting their identity in a personal space,”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Working in Venezuela for a long time is not an easy task for anyone. It has been a rough road but with wonderful results. I think that coping with a business in times of crisis and with as many obstacles as those in my country, makes you grow, learn and understand how to defend yourself, helps you to be more creative and solve a lot of problems than in developed and prosperous countries they do not exist.
Having had to close the doors of my business after nine years was also not easy and much less has been starting from scratch in a new country. But thanks to the passion I feel for what I do and the support of my family, I have managed to create a new business which also had a great acceptance and success.
