Meet Alyssia Gibson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssia Gibson.

Alyssia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Alyssia Gibson. I am from Jacksonville, Florida. I have been painting for almost three years and I’ve been sculpting for a year. Art has always been apart of my life at a young age. I have to admit it has always been with me just as it is with every child. So it would be fair to say art actually shapes us to start with. For me, I realized I was artistically inclined at a very young age and continued to sketch and draw throughout my teenage years until finally, I started to paint and sculpt. Art. So if you are asking me how art has changed my life, I will say it has not only changed me, it has made me who I am today! Growing up, it was easy for me to pick up on things and I was a hands-on person. If there was something I wanted to, I was determined to achieve it to the best of my ability. I am currently a college student majoring in biology to become a pediatric surgeon. I plan to become a doctor and an artist in my future.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest struggles as an artist is that I tend to compare my artwork to other artists and feel that my artwork is not good enough. Sometimes it makes me think that there are many flaws and mistakes to my artwork. I am one of the biggest critics when it comes to my artwork and sometimes it’s hard for me to realize that there is nothing wrong with the way I choose to create.

We’d love to hear more about your art.
I specialize in painting, sculpting, and drawing. It is a great feeling to know that my art is inspiring and loved by people around the world. Seeing an extension of me travel to places I haven’t been inspired me to believe in the process and create more work in the future. What sets me apart for other artists is that I aim for uniqueness and I am passionate about the art I create.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment I have had in my career is when I sold my first painting. I have been painting for three years but I never knew there was a big art community around me. It wasn’t until my first year of painting I had attended my first art gallery and someone wanted to purchase one of my paintings. I was astonished that someone would want my painting in their home to hang as decoration. Hearing the buyer explain to me how that painting made them and how much they could relate to the piece was one of the best feelings ever. I couldn’t believe I had a way of connecting with people through my art and allowing it to hold so much value in someone’s heart.
