Meet Alyssa Hollywood of Alyssa Hollywood Artistry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Hollywood.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alyssa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began an interest in makeup when I was in high school because of one of my closest friends, Helen Bernal. She always had the most stunning makeup and I always wanted to know her tricks and tips. We started learning about makeup together and really have pushed each other to be successful as artists, I owe a lot of my passion and ambition for the industry to her.

When I was in college, I began working at my local Sephora and began to further develop my skills. I discovered what it was like to be a working makeup artist and fell in love. During my junior year, I discovered an on campus fashion magazine ran through my fashion department and began working as a makeup artist for them. I had the opportunity to work on editorials as well as create concepts that I was able to bring to life. After just one semester as an artist, I was promoted to Beauty Director for the following year. By working with local photographers and boutiques, I began to meet some amazing future clients and start working on my career as a freelance artist.

During my senior year at Florida State University, Roxanne Parker, one of the most influential educators in my life helped me find an internship at a makeup brand in Miami, my dream! When I started interning at Beauty For Real, I was given the opportunity to do makeup for some amazing shows like the Christian Louboutin Grand Opening at the Miami Design District and Miami Swim Week 2017. After three months with them, I was brought onto the team full time as the Media Manager!

I’m just at the beginning of my career and have had some amazing opportunities but I continue to grow and expand myself and my makeup artistry business every day.

Has it been a smooth road?
No career path is perfect, nor will it ever be. I’ve had a lot of struggles and doubts along the way but it’s important to be persistent. Being in the beauty industry as a professional requires a lot of time commitment to your craft as well as a lot of money to build a kit you can grow with. At the start of my career, it was hard to balance the time between school and my responsibilities with trying to grow my career but, I’ve found a good balance now.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Alyssa Hollywood Artistry – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Alyssa Hollywood Artistry is the name of my makeup business, I offer freelance makeup services for runways, editorials, and special occasions. In addition, I find it important to educate my clients so I offer them one on one makeup lessons as well as guided shopping trips. With the vastness of the cosmetics industry, it’s great to have an expert who can cut through all that marketing noise and get you products that are perfect for you. I’m most proud of being able to showcase my work as a performance makeup artist at art galleries, it’s hard work to transform a makeup look into a story that touches people.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of the city! You have so many creative and talented people from all walks of life who can come together to create art together. What I like the least is how hard it is to find one another sometimes, finding communities of like-minded artists is important for growth and collaboration.
