Meet Alvaro Acevedo of Brickell Law Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvaro Acevedo.

Alvaro, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my firm in December of 2007 by preparing income tax returns and providing bookkeeping services to individuals and small businesses. I started by myself in a virtual office in Miami. Yet most of the work I did from home.

Today, ten years later, I have offices in Boston, where I am licensed as a CPA, Bogota Colombia, Panama City, Panama, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the headquarters in Miami.

I have three separate but affiliated companies:

(1) Acevedo & Associates, which provides accounting and tax preparation services.

(2) Brickell Law Group P.A., which provides tax and international law services.

(3) Miami Payroll Solutions, which provides payroll processing and employee benefit services. I have 30 in 4 countries in total.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has had its ups and downs. However, I have been fortunate enough to work out of Miami which is the perfect environment for business. Tax rates are low, human capital is high, working capital is also high, and Miami, as a gateway to the America, has a tremendous exposure to multinational clients.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Brickell Law Group story. Tell us more about the business.
We Provide Tax and International Law Services. Because we have multiple associated firms, we can provide integrated services. From corporate setup to bookkeeping, compliance, tax preparation, payroll processing, investments, fringe benefits, court representation, contract drafting, cross-national transactions, immigration, etc…

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe, the industry is not growing much because the current administration of the country is making it more difficult for foreigners to come to the United States. Foreign investment is one of the greater sources of capital. If the country establishes a more “open-boarders” policy, then the country should be headed for a greater expansion. But for now, I do not anticipate any significant growth at least for the next three years.
