Meet Alison Burgos of SEED Food & Wine Week

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Burgos.

Alison, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since 1998, I have produced destination weekends and events in Las Vegas, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Puerto Rico. When I became diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2008, I was confined to a wheelchair from 2011 to 2012, then underwent knee replacement surgery, followed by six months of physical rehabilitation to be able to walk again. Becoming more conscious of what I put into my body, I began consuming more fruits and vegetables, until adopting the plant-based diet I eat today. After I realized that changing my diet had made such an impact on my health, my wife and I saw the opportunity to teach others how to eat their way to better health. As a foodie, and highly aware of the burgeoning foodie scene in Miami, we realized that with my extensive experience as an event producer, that organizing the first of its kind plant-based food and wine festival was the best way to educate as well as enlighten others.

Has it been a smooth road?
We have had to make a lot of sacrifices, including selling our house and moving with my mother. Each year presents new challenges, but as the festival continues to grow, we make a larger impact on a wider audience.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success, to me, is providing informative and impactful events and programming.
