Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Amelio.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Several years ago, I made a few pieces of jewelry for myself and all the ladies in my office at the time started placing orders with me. It was right around the holidays and I couldn’t believe how many pieces I sold in such a small office, so I thought I would open an Etsy shop just to see if anyone else might be interested. I ended up launching my line in 2014 and now, my pieces have been sold in 30+ boutiques. I still can’t believe it!
I use a variety of natural elements to create unique accessories and gifts. I design and make each piece out of my Design Studio in Tequesta, Fl. My designs tend to stick to a neutral color palate so each piece can be worn with everything all year long!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely been a learning experience with a lot of trial and error. I think because of how I started I really didn’t have any sort of expectations and have just been running with it! I had been working on this little side biz for a few years while working full time in marketing. That allowed me time to get my name and product out there. By the time I had my daughter, I thought there is no way I can send her off to daycare and decided to stay home with her full time while figuring out how to run my business full time too (with a new baby). I turned my side hustle into a full-time job which was something I never sought out to do. It was all about timing for me. I’m so grateful to be able to stay at home and have a creative outlet for myself at the same time!
Please tell us about Alexandra Gioia Jewelry.
I am a self-taught jewelry designer with a marketing background. The two go hand in hand! My designs tend to stick to a neutral color palette (I’m a sucker for neutrals!) so each piece can be worn with everything all year long!
I recently opened my Design Studio and it has given me space outside of the house to work in. I also host a variety of Workshops and Pop Up Shops in the Studio. I love bringing in other like-minded creatives and giving our little community fun events to attend! Here’s a little recap of our most recent workshop: https://www.alexandragioia.com/blogs/news/cocreate-workshop
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in South Miami and have such fond memories of going to the original Parrot Jungle (now Jungle Island)! My family and I would ride our bikes there, grab a tray and fill it up with breakfast before heading outside to explore. As a kid, I loved being able to feed the parrots sunflower seeds and only got a bit on occasion. 🙂 I also loved watching the shows they put on and can still picture the parrots holding onto their “roller skates” with their toes!
