Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander VonBussenius.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At 24 years old, I found myself without a job and without an income. With little in savings, drive and passion, I set out to recreate myself. I wanted something new and exciting, something that everyone could enjoy. I had 9-5 jobs and even 7-3 jobs in the past and I knew working for someone else wasn’t the way for me.
When I saw the jetpacks being used in the backyard pond of the creator, I knew I had found something I could make a successful business out of. It wasn’t 3 weeks after I laid pencil to paper and wrote my first business plan that I found my first investor in my idea. Elated with joy and disbelief, I had no idea the path that had been set before me.
It took 3 years of trial and error, countless relationships, locations and failed attempts to bring this business to life. But eventually, I found my niche and with a lot of focus and discipline I was able to finally turn Relentless Water Sports in to a profitable venture that would bring joy to 10’s of thousands of visitors in Miami, Fl.
Today I can genuinely say, there is nothing that brings me more joy then to see my customers going home with smiles on their faces.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Pioneering a completely brand new industry is incredibly difficult. There were times I like to joke about but I can assure you it was no joke. I reminisce about the times I could afford the hot dog but not the bun! Times I had to sleep on couches and drive 2 hours to work and 2 hours back! Its these times that I think back on and it reminds me to always press forward and never give up on my dreams no matter what.
People will always try to pull you back and sometimes it’s even your best of friends. But when you believe in something so dearly, you just have to continue forward and one day you will succeed. Important to remember that.
Other than the basic hardships of personal relations and geographical limitations…there have been a ton of setbacks and issues along the way with the coast guard and local authorities attempting to lay out the ground work for regulating the water flights industry. Much of which I have been a part of and actually wrote the first revisions of the framework that are what we know as today’s standards in the industry. Once these were laid out, things started to flow a lot smoother.
Relentless Water Sports – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in water sport equipment rentals from Jet ski rentals to Jetpacks and Fly boards. We also perform Night and Day time shows for Non-profit foundations as well as for profit organizations such as the Miami Sea Fair Venue.
As a company, we are most proud of our reviews. We strive to make every customer a happy customer and hope to see them and their families again in the future.
I think our passion, drive and focus towards excellent customer service making sure everyone has a great time is the thing that sets us apart from the competition. So many people are in this for all the wrong reasons but for me and everyone that works with me, we try to put the customer first because in the end that is what matters and that is what is going to carry the company through the hard times of the year.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’d have to say, by far the proudest moment of all was when we got the chance to fly a group of underprivileged children. They had won the donated flights at auction for the Miami, Fl. “Do The Right Thing” Foundation. Watching their eyes light up as they take flight for the first time never gets old and will be something I will always remember!
