Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Lafortune.

I am a 23-year-old entrepreneur, CEO, and Founder of Fortune X. My story began in 2016 at Nova Southeastern University, where I was alone in my college dorm room one night. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and accidentally I knocked my toothbrush into the toilet.
Frustrated by the inconvenience, I wondered why replacing or buying a new toothbrush was not as easy as ordering a pizza. With my toothbrush in the toilet and no store in site, Fortune X was born. My passion for subscription services and unique offerings that night brought my vision to life.
In October 2018, with the help of a great mentor and professor who taught at Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Herbert Brotspies, and investor Dr. Trumbach, I was able to launch Fortune X, a monthly oral care subscription service (www.fortunexbox.com) based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The company’s goal is to help customers improve their oral hygiene and save time and money by having products regularly shipped to them. Alongside, I brought in Lacei Sams to take care of all the social media, branding, and marketing. Lacei has been around with me since the blueprint of Fortune X where she believed in me and the concept.
Dentists recommend that everyone replace their toothbrush every three to four months. Therefore, Fortune X sells a variety of toothbrushes, replacement bristle heads, toothpaste, and whitening products. People tend to forget or they don’t have time to buy a new toothbrush. Fortune X wants to take away those worries and create a new lifestyle for everyone.
I was able to get to where I am today because of my mother. My mom was a single mother who played the role as a father as well. She has always pushed me to be great and to never follow, but to lead by example. Her determination, hard work, and struggles made me become a mature man at a young age. Without my mom being a great example and always going the extra mile to provide for my brother and I; I wouldn’t have been able to become the CEO and Founder of Fortune X.
Today, I am officially running and operating Fortune X at my office in Fort Lauderdale. With the support of customers and members, we plan to continue to grow and educate people the importance of having a good oral hygiene.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like every startup, it’s not a smooth road at first. Since we are an oral care subscription box company, we need to educate people the importance of replacing their toothbrushes every 3-4 months, but most importantly informing people of how to keep a good oral hygiene. Till this day we might encounter a few challenges, but we have a great positive team that will overcome some obstacles and keeps moving forward to make Fortune X the best oral care subscription box company in the world. We still have a small team which is my self and my marketing coordinator Lacei Sams, who takes care of social media and other aspects of branding for the company. So we are all still learning as we go.
How do you define success?
I personally define success, by doing something you have a passion for and being able to execute it. In most cases, people tend to hold themselves up to being successful because they are scared to take a risk. In life, is all about taking a risk, even if you think that you will fail. We all learn from our failures, and that is what makes great entrepreneurs great.
