Today we’d like to introduce you to Akio Ross.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Akio. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
PumPumPos-c began in 2009 by myself and two friends. After sneaking into a fete when I was just 15 years old an inspiration came when we saw a group of people who had “posse” on their shirts. We decided to come up with a name for our group on the spot; I came up with PumPumPos-C. We started off as a group of friends who just had a love for Caribbean culture. As we learned more about our roots, we decided to take it a step further-
I wanted to spread my love for Soca and carnival among people in my age group, and eventually the world. Our first event was an all-ages event (meaning a teenage party) and it had just over 100 people in a tiny space, but to us, it was a huge success! As time progressed, we went from all-ages parties to 18 and up parties, to putting on some of the biggest Caribbean events in South Florida, such as Miami Cooler Wet Fete, and Miami Bacchanal Jouvert, each attracting over 3,000 patrons!
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth having in life is a smooth road. There were many bumps and struggles along the way. Some included losing thousands of dollars when first starting out based on poor decisions, to having venues canceling events last minute, to people going out of their way to try and sabotage our events. Through trial and error, we got better. I would not trade any of these experiences for the world… The Pos-c is a family

PumPumPos-C specializes in providing the best feteing experience. From our staging to our lighting, to our Dj’s, one is guaranteed to have a great time at one of our events. What I am most proud about is our expansion. Last year, we had our first event in New York City, “PHUCKIT!”. The event had just over 300 people, with so much more room to grow. Who knows, next year we might have over 1000 people.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
South Florida is a good place for businesses like mine. In South Florida, we have so many people from all across the Caribbean, who love their culture and love to party. Starting in South Florida would be ideal, we have the weather, we have the population, we have the vibes.
