Today we’d like to introduce you to Aileen Gonzalez.
Aileen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am originally from Jersey City, NJ. I am a wife and mother or three amazing children ages 9, 13 and 17. I have always wanted to be in this industry and own my own salon. I started off as a wash girl many years ago and in talking to the stylists or watching them work their “magic”, I knew I had to pursue my dreams. I did hair for family and friends, some weddings, etc., but I did not get licensed until I moved here to Miami. I did my research and signed up for the best education I can get. Once I enrolled, I pushed myself to get the highest grades, take every client that walks through the doors, participate in all events and fashion shows. I even challenged myself to ace my finals and I did.
After graduating and passing my state boards exam, I started looking for the right salon where I can be creative, continue learning and grow my artistry. I tried out two local salons, but unfortunately, it was not what I expected. As a stylist, and as a person in general, I want to always invest in my education in order to grow and provide the best service to my guests. My guests come to me for more than just their hair… it is the full experience. It is what I stand for… I do not want to be the stylist that has people waiting around, because I am overbooked. I want to schedule you and value your time as you value mine.
As a hairstylist, I pride myself in my work and the love I put into each guest. Being a licensed cosmetologist was one of the best decisions of my life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but with a lot of hard work, dedication and consistency, I have been able to gain some loyal clients.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I pride myself in being a full-service stylist. From the minute you sit in my chair until the end of the service, I am all about the guest. Even after I like to follow up to see how they are doing. My personal touch is what definitely separates me from the rest.
I enjoy cutting, coloring and styling. There is so much… balayages, highlights, fantasy colors, keratin and so much more…
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Staying hungry and humble. Being able to know your worth, but humble enough to never stop learning and exploring new creative and artistic ways of doing hair.
