Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Singerman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Aaron. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey is an interesting one. I grew up with in New Orleans and then after Hurricane Katrina forced my family and me to move to Houston and start a new life. In this time, I became fully addicted to Heroin. Through this time and my whole life, I love bodybuilding. While I was personal training in a gym, I met one trainer there that had a Porsche and I thought “how do I get one of those?” When I asked him this, he told me I would never have one because he could tell this wasn’t my passion. From that moment on, I decided to dedicate all of my energy to making a name for myself covering bodybuilding shows. I made a name for myself in the industry and then when the opportunity arose to start a supplement company I jumped on it. Through my obsessive nature, my then best friend and partner became a success. Our company became the number 27 fastest growing private company on the INC 500. After this, we, unfortunately, had a terrible dispute that resulted in me being kicked out of my own company. This was the catalyst to me and a few other employees that walked out with me starting REDCON1. Which has now become the fastest growing supplement company in the world and in Vitamin Shoppe history. In under three years, we have grown to over 80 employees and greatly surpassed the best year my old company had by multiple millions. I attribute this to the team we have built, they are as all in as I am and we are focused on the goal of becoming the biggest supplement company in the world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. I have had partnership disputes, friends turn their back, and setbacks that to some would seem catastrophic. To me, I view all of these setbacks as opportunities to grow and come back bigger and better than before.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Redcon1, LLC story. Tell us more about it.
Initially, I believed I specialized in bodybuilding and supplements. Through this journey and growing Redcon1, I have come to find my true passion is marketing. What I am most proud of in our organization is the team we have built internally but also the following of loyal fans of the brand we have built. When starting Redcon1, we sought to provide content that would be of value to the consumer and through that, they would want to support the brand. We have over 7,700 “tier operators”, these people are our boots on the ground that are willing to work for free for the love of the brand. I attribute that to our marketing and staying the course making sure we aren’t just selling a product, but a brand that people can get behind and believe in.
Do you feel like there are certain traits that increase the likelihood of success?
I would say my risk tolerance. Most of my decisions are made fast and the team executes everything at the same speed. This keeps us ahead of competitors. I also am a proponent of compersion, I’m happy to see others succeed and don’t wish anything negative on anybody, this is a trait very rare in our industry but I believe is something that has created much success for me.
