Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron R. Freckleton.
When I started high school, I was enrolled in an architect program. I loved interior designing, landscaping, the history of architecture, and the whole creative side to it collectively was really enjoyable, but I hated math. Acting was still in the back of my head. So, when I started college, I decided I wanted to major in English to become a lawyer. Especially, at that time with so many injustices going on involving minorities and women, the Trayvon Martin shooting was just a few years back, all that had a profound impact on me and changed my view of the world, I wanted to make a difference. Then I realized how boring the coursework of it is to reach where I wanted to be to make a difference. Acting was still in the back of my head. Shortly after I switched to nursing because what’s better than being there for people when they feel at their lowest? As I progressed with my classes and got to know more about the field, I realized how much money was made off sick patients, the pharmaceutical company profit, and maintaining and not eliminating illness. I know the intent is good being a nurse, but the rest was unavoidable, so I just felt it wasn’t for me in my opinion. Acting was still in the back of my head. One day in class, my professor said to us that everyone needs to chase their dreams no matter how hard the obstacles were, meaning you need to chase what makes you happy, truly happy. Literally a few days later I watched a video on 100 people telling their biggest regrets in life, once it hit the ages of 35+, I lost it, everyone repeated almost the same exact line and it drove me insane. “I regret not chasing my dreams” and that’s when I knew it. I needed to chase what I wanted and it was to be an actor.
I searched up classes in Miami and found Miami Acting Studio. There, I have been working on my craft and really getting to know others in the acting community which makes it easier to relate ideas. I have not grown tired of it, and I realized growing up all my ideas shared the same quality of helping people, just this time it is through a screen. So, here I am today and I have so much more to prove.
Has it been a smooth road?
Oddly enough, I thought I was too old to start acting. It sounds ridiculous but in my head, I thought if you wanted to be an actor, you had to start from a young age, train in child theater, have a manager, the real Disney kid actor image, the whole nine yards, and I was completely wrong. Repeatedly for obvious reasons I had mentioned how acting was in the back of my head through all my life choices and sometimes it has to marinate in your mind before it gets done. People start acting at different ages, there is no set age for becoming an actor! I especially realized that after going to my classes and being on set and talking to people and getting to know their life story. I try to keep long term and more specifically short term goals which are attainable monthly to keep things positive and progressive. I luckily have the support of my parents and family which makes my journey a lot easier than most. Having the courage to tell people you’re an actor was hard in the beginning because many people don’t know how to respond to it. The first instinct for people to do is either laugh, think it’s unrealistic, and or try thinking if they have seen you in anything “big” which makes anything you’ve done feel like a waste, and I don’t blame them because they don’t know. If you’re taking acting classes, reading material on acting, being a LEAD on a SMALL film, being an EXTRA on a BIG film, paying for services that help build your acting profile, and or taking acting workshops. YOU ARE AN ACTOR. I had to come to realize that quick, just because you aren’t a KNOWN actor to some, doesn’t mean you should discredit yourself of such a beautiful title.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I act. I can be your next door neighbor, I can be your knight in shining armor, I can be your love interest, I can be your worst enemy, I can be so many different things to a wide variety of people. That’s why I think acting is the most beautiful form of art given to us because you are giving me the chance to touch your soul so many different ways emotionally. Experiencing a character created for a storyline that is the complete opposite of my life helps me better understand the world and that everybody is different. Using what makes me different from everyone else and putting that into a character makes me proud. I am real and relatable.
Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
I see acting as a whole shifting to more smaller films getting recognition. With so many companies funding for smaller film projects nowadays. That’s going to allow many more actors like myself to be sought after to play bigger roles and directors to get their ideas viewed by many. As a minority, it gives me courage knowing I too have an equal shot amongst others in this challenging career. I’m eyeing to write and direct after I’ve accomplished what I want.
