Today we’d like to introduce you to Avrohom Liberman.
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.
I started my first IT company almost 20 years ago. At the time, I had a great interest in the aerospace industry and commercial aviation, so that was the main focus of the company. Unfortunately, we had some major bumps in the road prior to launching, as many businesses may face in the beginning, so I was forced to reposition. Instead, I started doing IT consulting, then went to law school as a change of career. Keeping up my consulting projects while wrestling with the law was challenging. Fortunately, one of my clients at the time, a sportswear company, needed a developer. I moved in-house and ultimately took on the entire operations flow, I was so inspired that soon after I founded 3nom with my partner Abe Sasson.
I’ve always been interested in providing low-cost, high-value creative solutions for customers to help them automate their business processes. I enjoy the challenge of building custom workflows for businesses and it feels even more rewarding being able to do it for a low-cost that everyone can afford. Especially since low-cost customized IT solutions are an essential need for small and medium-sized businesses. There is a lot of redundancy in the IT infrastructure and software offerings from the big players. A cost-conscious business shouldn’t have to pay for the features and services they don’t need. It’s not only about IT. Customized automation can often rescue marketing budgets and improve the bottom line.
An example of this is FrenchToast, a school uniform company. At the time, I was automating their internal cost allocation and commissions. They wanted to create custom uniform catalogs for schools since not every school approves every type of uniform and has their own unique dress code. Custom catalogs showed better sales, however, graphic designers quoted them $50-$100 per page, making the total price for 300+ pages (annually) entirely unsustainable. The challenge tempted me, so I built a system that automatically created the customized pages. Almost eighteen years later, FrenchToast is still using this tool, saving tens of thousands of dollars every season.
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Founding a business is never a straightforward, smooth road. Of course we have had our bumps along the way, but I enjoy creative problem-solving. Just the initial opening of our business was a major bump in the beginning, and it forced me to postpone starting my business for several years. But through this, I learned even more and felt prepared when we finally launched 3nom.
Devising innovative solutions for specific problems, be it through automation or custom software development, is what gets me out of bed every morning. So although we may have bumps along the way, I always view it as an exciting challenge.
Tell us about your business/company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
3nom is an IT service provider based in New York City and Miami. 3nom offers all things tech, from cloud servers, virtual desktops, technology purchasing, cyber security, app creation and more. But 3nom’s biggest asset is our people. Every partner and each of our employees brings to the table the expertise, attitude, and integrity that allowed us to build a business on trust and mutual value with our clients. With IT, you always face new problems. We’ve been in business for fifteen years, so we know the specific issues, and the right tested ways to solve them. Everyone I work with sincerely cares for providing the best product, understanding what clients genuinely need, and problem-solving in the most cost-effective way possible. I believe our support and affordability are what set 3nom apart from the rest, and I’m proud to have grown such an amazing company and team!
What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
I think we are extremely lucky to have the staff we do. They are always available 24/7 and put our client needs first. One of the biggest lessons for me was when it backfired. A few years ago, we lost a customer when we put our foot down on security and added extra identification steps for employees. Some of them complained, so they changed IT providers. This taught me the importance of balancing the security of our client’s enterprise with the end-user experience. Through every unfortunate situation a great lesson can be learned, and we always try our best to learn from any mistakes or obstacles we face, to be better prepared the next time.
