Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Cameron.
Hi Kim, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My story is like so many. I began in a career that I did not enjoy but had to pay the bills. My passion is and always has been music. After numerous musicians told me not to dive in deep because of the hardships involved, I did not listen. I had to pursue the journey I was meant to be on. And, now, over 15 years later, I will never look back.
If you have to work hard at something, why not work at something you love versus something you do not love? I do not regret starting my journey later in life because I believe the skills I learned in the corporate world really helped me understand how to pursue this journey in music. Music has then also guided me to film, which is where I spend the majority of my time now.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The art life is never easy. Everyone loves what they love. Just because you create it, does not mean others will like it or even love it. So whether you are in music, art, or film, the road is filled with highs and lows. But, if you really want to be in the arts, you have to take all of the good and bad and keep driving forward. There is no way to please everyone.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I look at myself as a storyteller. I tell stories, mostly love stories, in my music. In the film, I try to tell adventure stories with positive messages and meanings, as well as what drives individuals to create.
In my music docu-series, Miami’s Listening Party, I want to tell the artist’s story behind their songs. Why did they write those lyrics, why did they need to tell that story, etc? I always look for ways to connect with people, and I believe telling great stories is our best connection.
What do you think about happiness?
I guess, in general, I feel happy almost every day. I live on the beach, which is my first love (the ocean). I get up and create music or stories (my second passion). And am surrounded by some many friends that I feel very full inside. It’s rare, even on rainy days, that I cannot smile inside.
