Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelique Salcedo
Hi Angelique, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for fashion. I remember as a kid, I would play with my mom’s clothes and make clothes for my dolls. I would say that growing up in France really reinforced that passion. It’s part of the culture and the heritage so there’s a different approach to it. You get to see the beauty of garment construction, the art in the details of the embellishments, and you get to actually see clothes from centuries ago. All of that made me fall in love with fashion and that’s what really got me into fashion design.
In 2021 I decided to launch my brand Pina Salcecci were I present yearly collections for both women and men, as well an accessory line. I try to be as sustainable as possible by repurposing even the smallest scrap of fabric and transforming them into something new. As a french designer, I also feel the responsibility to share our savoir-faire so we can preserve the craftmanship and promote local techniques from small artisans because at the end of the day, they are the backbone of couture.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fashion is definitely a journey, and a beautiful one. I remember when I was a student all of those sleepless nights, living on coffee but that’s where you find your essence as a designer. Launching a brand is a bumpy road, especially in a market that has been changing so much these past years and with the influence of AI. It’s a very past paced industry with alot of elements to take into consideration in the design process, in the branding and selling your collections but with determination and hard work, everything is possible. You just have to believe in yourself and your dreams.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I take pride in creating new collections every year for men and women, including accessories for both. All of the pieces can be made to measure, and are only produced on demand. What sets me apart from other is that I try to incorporate in every collection small touches of techniques that aren’t widely known so I can share those stories with the world. Sometimes even the smallest embroidery stitch can tell the greatest stories!
