Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Cruz.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Lotus Flower Life actually started from an idea I got from my daily meditation practice. I started a different blog over 8 years ago with my sister that had a heavy emphasis solely on style blogging but my passion for creating content blossomed into many different avenues that piqued my interest throughout that time; photography, cinematography & editing. Lotus Flower Life became the outlet for me to share my insights on everything that makes me who I am while experimenting with my inner tech nerd skills. Combining internal with external beauty, it’s really about helping others find their own inner light through having fun with style, self-care & embracing who they naturally are in their truest authenticity.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, in reality creating quality content is a lot of hard work. Many people start it out as a side gig thinking “oh, I’ll just take a couple of pictures and throw it out there & see what happens”. There is so much more that goes into writing a good blog article, shooting quality photos & filming inspiring videos. If you start a blog or vlogging channel in hopes of a quick financial return, you will be highly disappointed. This is something that takes time and is a very slow build. Often times, that means working outside of content creating, sacrificing going out on the weekends and working on content before or after work to remain consistent. That is exactly the stage I am at right now. If I were to give any advice to anyone starting out I would advise that you start it because you want to share something you are truly passionate about. That passion inside is the fire that will keep you going when times get tough and you want to see it through to its full potential.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lotus Flower Life – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Lotus Flower Life is all about giving passion for aesthetics a deeper meaning. I do believe experimenting with your outer appearance can truly affect how you feel about yourself in a positive way without negating the fact that internal beauty also plays an integral role in how good you feel on a daily basis. Each form of expression is a part of being human, one does not come without the other. I definitely have not seen any creator able to combine the two in the way that I do. My favorite way to dive into sharing what I know about these subjects is through video creation on my YouTube channel. The content I share on there is my specialty & what I am the proudest of. Whether I’m sharing how to take care of curly hair properly, a lifestyle habit that has helped me to find more joy in life or demonstrating how to step up your style game to feel more confident, its all for the cause of being in love with being yourself.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
In my opinion, mentorship can be provided in a myriad of ways. By investing in an online course to learn how to better your craft or reaching out to someone you admire for tips. Find a mentor that is a good fit for your brand and what you represent. Be respectful of your mentor’s time because their advice does not come free. This knowledge is coming from the cost of their own hard work, struggles & mistakes they’ve made along the way to get to where they want to be. When asking for advice, think of ways you can give something in return, even if you can’t give anything financial, there are other ways to show you are considerate of their time. I don’t have a single mentor or person I rely on for guidance. I like to go the educational route and take courses that mesh well with my personality to get insight on how to better my craft. Combining that with listening to your own intuition or internal voice is extremely important on your journey.
