Today we’d like to introduce you to Genavieve Villar.
Hi Genavieve, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Almost a decade ago, I started my journey in the fashion world with nothing more than a dream, a passion for style, and a small boutique. I didn’t come from a fashion empire or have a blueprint for success — I just knew I loved making women feel confident and beautiful. In the beginning, I curated collections for my store, hand-picking every piece with my clients in mind. But over time, something inside me kept pulling toward something even deeper — the desire to create, not just curate.
Slowly, I shifted from simply selling clothes to designing them. It started with one custom dress… then another… until one day, I realized I wasn’t just running a boutique anymore — I was building a brand. A place where women could bring their vision to life, where every detail was crafted just for them.
Today, I specialize in fully custom designs — dresses for brides, prom queens, pageant stars, gala-goers — and every woman in between who deserves to feel extraordinary.
I’m proud of what I’ve built, but the truth is, it hasn’t always been easy. Behind the beautiful dresses and polished photos, there have been long nights, sacrifices, and plenty of moments where I had to choose faith over fear. Especially because while building my business, I was also building my family. I’m a proud mom to three amazing little boys, a wife to my biggest supporter, and somehow — in the middle of the chaos — I also became a real estate investor by the age of 29.
I wear a lot of hats, and not every day feels glamorous. But I’m proof that you don’t have to choose between being a present mother, a devoted wife, and a successful entrepreneur. You can build a life you’re proud of — one that honors every part of who you are.
Looking back, I’m so grateful for that girl who dared to start with just a boutique, because she paved the way for the woman I am today.
And the truth is — I’m just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t always been easy.
When Covid hit, it brought a wave of uncertainty, especially for the boutique side of my business. Foot traffic slowed, inventory sat longer than expected, and for a moment, I questioned if everything I had worked for was slipping away. But even during the hardest times, one thing remained consistent — my custom designs continued to thrive.
Custom work had always been the heart of what I loved most, and seeing that part of my business stay strong gave me the clarity and courage to fully restructure and focus on what I was truly passionate about: creating one-of-a-kind pieces that made women feel extraordinary.
At the same time, behind the scenes, I was facing some of the deepest personal struggles of my life. I went through multiple miscarriages — each one a painful reminder that some dreams don’t come easy. Through the heartbreak and uncertainty, I kept moving forward, fueled by faith and the hope that better days were ahead.
Eventually, those prayers were answered. I became a mother — not just once, but three times over — and every part of my journey, both the battles and the blessings, has shaped the woman, the designer, and the business owner I am today.
If there’s anything my story proves, it’s that even in the hardest seasons, beautiful things can still grow.
As you know, we’re big fans of Private Label By Genavieve. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At PRIVATE LABEL by Genavieve, we specialize in creating fully custom designs for women who want to feel truly extraordinary.
From bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses to prom, pageant, maternity, gala, and special event looks — every piece we create is one-of-a-kind, designed from scratch to bring each client’s vision to life.
What truly sets us apart is the personal experience we provide. This isn’t fast fashion or off-the-rack. It’s a collaborative, intimate process where each design is thoughtfully crafted to not only fit beautifully, but to make the woman wearing it feel powerful, confident, and unforgettable.
We listen carefully, design intentionally, and pour heart and craftsmanship into every detail — because we believe every woman deserves to wear something as unique as she is.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how we’ve grown while staying true to our values: authenticity, quality, and personal connection. Especially during the uncertainty of Covid, when so much of the industry shifted, we stayed committed to offering truly custom, meaningful pieces rather than following mass-market trends — and that has been the foundation of our success.
What I want readers to know is that at PRIVATE LABEL by Genavieve, you’re not just ordering a dress — you’re creating an experience. A memory. A moment where you step into the best, most confident version of yourself.
Whether it’s your wedding day, prom night, a pageant stage, or a major life milestone, we’re honored to be part of the moments you’ll remember forever.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
My Favorite Things About Miami:
I love the culture, the energy, and the diversity. Being Cuban and French, I feel right at home here — it’s a city full of life, tradition, and inspiration. I love that I can celebrate my roots every day through the food, music, and community. Miami pushes you to dream bigger and reminds you that anything is possible.
My Least Favorite Things About Miami:
The fast pace can be overwhelming at times, especially balancing business and family life. And of course, the traffic is no joke. But even with the challenges, I wouldn’t trade it — Miami will always be home.
