Today we’d like to introduce you to Yonnette Stephen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My path to starting New Beginnings Counseling Services came from a deep passion for helping people move through life’s difficult seasons with support, clarity, and hope. Before launching the practice, I spent years working in different clinical settings, gaining experience with individuals, couples, and families facing a wide range of challenges — from trauma and anxiety to relationship and life transitions.
Over time, I started to notice how many people felt disconnected in the therapeutic process — like they were being talked at, rather than truly seen and understood. I wanted to change that.
That’s what led me to start New Beginnings. The vision was to create a space that felt warm, safe, and real — where people could show up as they are and feel genuinely supported in their growth. It started with just me, and slowly, the practice grew into a team of dedicated, heart-centered clinicians who believe in meeting clients where they are and walking alongside them through healing.
Today, I’m proud of the impact we’ve made and the community we continue to build. Helping people reclaim their peace and purpose isn’t just what we do — it’s who we are.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most meaningful work, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. Starting and growing a private practice comes with its own set of challenges — from learning how to run a business while also being fully present for clients, to navigating insurance panels, paperwork, and all the behind-the-scenes responsibilities that people don’t always see.
In the early days, there were moments of doubt — wondering if the vision I had would truly resonate or if I could sustain the workload. There were times I had to learn hard lessons about boundaries, burnout, and the importance of asking for help. Building the right team took time too — finding clinicians who not only had the skills, but also shared the heart and mission behind the work.
But every challenge has helped shape what New Beginnings is today. The struggles taught me resilience, sharpened my leadership, and deepened my empathy — both as a therapist and as a business owner. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s absolutely been worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about New Beginnings Counseling Service LLC?
New Beginnings Counseling Services is a private practice grounded in the belief that therapy should feel both empowering and deeply personal. We specialize in working with pre-teens, teens, adults, and families through individual, group, and family therapy. Our areas of focus include depression, anxiety, stress management, trauma, grief and loss, relationship challenges, parent-teen dynamics, and premarital counseling.
In addition to our established services, Yonnette is now expanding into intimacy coaching—supporting couples in deepening their emotional, physical, and spiritual connections. As part of this initiative, we’re excited to host our Love & Mimosa Couples Brunch, an interactive experience designed for couples who want to explore tools, conversations, and shared moments that foster a deeper bond.
What sets us apart is the way we approach therapy — with compassion, authenticity, and a genuine commitment to meeting people where they are. With over 20 years of experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful therapy can be when clients feel safe enough to show up as their full selves. At New Beginnings, we prioritize creating a judgment-free space where clients feel heard, respected, and supported in their growth.
We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Every session is tailored to the individual or family in front of us, with the goal of producing real, lasting change. We’re known for helping clients feel more present, connected, and empowered in their everyday lives.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built with our clients and the reputation we’ve earned for being both professional and deeply human. Therapy can be a vulnerable process, and it means a lot to know that people feel safe and supported with us.
More than anything, I want readers to know that healing is possible — and they don’t have to do it alone. Whether someone is struggling with a specific issue or simply looking to reconnect with themselves, our team is here to walk alongside them every step of the way.
What were you like growing up?
I was born in Guyana, South America, and my family relocated to the Bahamas when I was eight years old before moving to the United States at age fifteen. I was fortunate to have a happy childhood, and with both of my parents being educators, the value of education was deeply instilled in me from an early age.
As a child, I was often shy and, at times, a bit awkward, but I always knew I wanted to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Over time, I discovered that being a therapist not only allows me to fulfill that passion but also enables me to step into a more extroverted side of myself when supporting and connecting with my clients.
