Hi Vicky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Vicky J best known as Chyna from Chynas House Of Wax. Waxing has always been a passion for me. I started my Esthetician journey back in 2013 after completion of beauty school, I was doing house calls and working at a wax shop offering waxing services I placed my dreams on pause for 5 years to tend to motherhood/family and working a 9 to 5 that I despised. During the COVID pandemic, I placed my focus back on my dreams, got my head back in my books to get back into what I loved.
In 2021 I opened up my own waxing salon/beauty shop and became my own boss. Offering A number of services including Full body waxing, Vajacials, Facials, Teeth whitening, etc.

I never imagined having my own business and being a business owner but anything & everything is possible with God of course!
I can now say I’m a Small business owner, Women-owned business & proud to have the title of Black-owned business associated with Chyna’s House of Wax.
I’ve officially opened up a storefront where my wonderful clients can come to me and enjoy their time and find sanity during our sessions. It has taken a lot of blood sweat & many tears to get to where I’m at now. But that’s something I would do 100 times over again & again.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Nobody tells you what’s it’s like to run a business. I had to learn as I went, from getting permits to perform services. To shops having Maintenace issues, there were number of times I wanted to quit and just go work a regular 9 to 5 job but at the end of the day, you have to love what you do in order for you to be one of the best! You have to put in time to build yourself and YOUR company. Of course, there would be monthly challenges but every day is a challenge.

I am most proud of being a Black Haitian Female Business owner, I offer working space for upcoming entrepreneurs in the beauty industry to work and service their own clients within the beauty shop.
What do you think about happiness?
My family, I’m a Wife & Mother of 3 boys I do this for them. My business allows me to work around my own schedules to tend to my family.
What makes me happy is waking up and coming to my business and doing absolutely what I love making my clients happy looking at the satisfaction on their face after services perform being able to have a sanctuary for people to come and be free and speak their minds and be comfortable & let loose. Along with hands-on, we provide emotional support whether it’s in-store or via a phone call to us we’re always here to lend a helping hand.
