Hidden Gems: Meet Faiza Afia of Exotic Beauty Bar Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faiza Afia.

Hi Faiza, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Miami , I originally wanted to be a makeup artist so I went to beauty school straight after high school to learn more about beauty. I ended up falling in love with doing hair. I was inspired by the stories I’ve heard while in school and they motivated me to keep going and make people feel beautiful every day. Sometimes all you need is self care & a hair appointment and you feel on top of the world. I’ve worked at a few salons and had many experiences with different Salon owners, different environments and different types of people which shaped me to be the person I am today. Owner of Exotic Beauty bar miami.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing in life is easy. I’ve gone through so many obstacles and toxic Salon environments that shaped me to be who I am today. Growing from a baby hairstylist, very timid & shy to a strong confident boss lady. I’ve always wanted to own my own Hair Salon and be my own boss. I’ve gained the knowledge and confidence throughout the journey Working for other people. It shaped me and showed me what I can do better. The industry is not an easy place to be and especially with the difficulties of life, bills, taking care of family all while trying to enjoy yourself and make life worth it. It took a long journey, but I’m finally somewhere that I enjoy being, and it gives me some type of peace, knowing it’s my business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At exotic beauty bar, Miami, I offer a variety of services such as blowouts and styling, haircuts, extensions, color & anti-frizz/smoothing treatments. My specialty is blowouts & styling. I love doing haircuts and frizz treatments on my clients in this humid Miami weather.
I’ve worked at blowout bars and full service Hair salons where I’ve learned to perfect my craft. My Salon is very feminine and girly with pink and gold vibes. I like to call it “Barbie’s salon” It’s a safe space for my clients to feel at home comfortable and be able to talk to me and vibe freely. I offer beverages, snack, and music while everyone gets their hair done.

How do you think about luck?
Luck has played a huge role. As the hair industry begins to grow and have more and more competition, with my 10 years of experience, I feel very happy that my clients trust me and can recommend me to their friends and family members, and that my work shows for itself. There are always good weeks and bad weeks. I think God for every week that I have a good week and can make some profit. Life in the economy is always switching up and it’s very unpredictable. Being a business owner is not an easy thing to be but, I’m proud of it and I’m pushing through to make the most of it.
