Exploring Life & Business with Nina Mas of MasMed Rehab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Mas.

Hi Nina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I come from a strong lineage of medical professionals – basically a family tree of white coats. My grandfather built a practice that grew with three of his four children, while my other aunt managed the office. Today, my dad and uncle still run it, and even my late sister became a physician before her passing.

Naturally, I wanted nothing to do with healthcare. My passion was soccer—played it from age four, lived it through two years of college, and then my knees and a few broken ribs politely informed me that the pros were not in my future. I pivoted to marketing and thought PR might be a fit, but an internship quickly proved otherwise.

At this point, I was a clueless retired athlete who missed the physical challenge and competition. I drifted along a spiritual phase now, and met with a medium who, unprompted, acknowledged my late sister. Her advice? “You should think about something physical… maybe in healthcare.” And just like that, spark ignited.

I spent an extra year completing prerequisites and somehow got accepted into my long-shot program: USC, the #1 PT school in the country.

Los Angeles was a dream. I arrived determined on working with a pro sports team… instead I landed my first job in oncology rehab. Heavy on the heart but unbelievably rewarding. I had the privilege of working with patients undergoing stem cell transplants and women with breast cancer navigating recovery after mastectomy as a lymphedema therapist.

Their resilience completely reshaped my path. I saw firsthand the immense gaps—and quiet suffering—in women’s health. That sent me straight into the world of pelvic health, another wildly underserved and once-taboo area of healthcare.

Now it’s my mission—still competitive at heart—to help bridge the gap by educating and empowering women to take control of their health in a system that tends let it fall down the totem pole.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has been as smooth as sandpaper, having almost failed out of a course my second semester of physical therapy school. I was given a chance to re-take the exam and a few days before I decided to reach out to a seasoned physical therapist/mentor for inspiration to keep going. She replied: “you know, it’s not for everyone. You can always get your master’s and have a 9-5”. That, and a whopping dose of imposter’s syndrome was hard to shake, but we got through it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MasMed Rehab?
Women’s health issues—from pregnancy and postpartum to menopause and post-surgical recovery—are too often overlooked, leaving women to tread water with ankle weights on. I opened my practice after a persistent gut-nag turned into full-blown irritation at these disparities and the way women’s care is treated like an afterthought. That, and my marketing degree finally insisted on earning its keep. MasMed Rehab was born from that spark.

Our mission is simple: build real relationships and provide true one-on-one care that treats the whole person, not just the diagnosis. I started small in 2022, juggling part-time work and new parenthood. By 2023, I dove in full-time as a solo therapist—and today we’ve grown into a solid team with three offices in our building.

We offer physical therapy services ranging from orthopedics and pelvic health (for men and women) to birth prep, postpartum care, lymphatic treatment, and cancer rehab. And honestly—we love what we do.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
You can be the smartest person in the room, but if you can’t relate, you’re invisible. Building a relationship and connecting with our patients, for me, is the driving force of quality, long-lasting care.
