Hi Becky, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a business owner, model, influencer, and writer, based in Miami Beach. I graduated with a degree in biology (with a minor in psychology). For me, the journey of entrepreneurship occurred right after the pandemic in 2021. I nearly lost my Dad in 2020, due to colon cancer. On top of that, after becoming sick, he was fired after dedicating 32 years of service to the career he was in, having to restart his trajectory in the professional world. It was definitely tough to watch someone you love battle cancer and a career loss at the same time, after working for others for years. This was the catalyst that drove me to create a business that I could call my own.
Life gives you moments to reflect on, and you end up finding motivation in the midst of the chaos. My business, called Charmingly Brunette, features: apparel, a men’s section, and dainty jewelry pieces. I have a unique perspective while running my business, since I view it from both aspects. As an influencer, I work with various brands like Victoria’s Secret, etc, working with deadlines and creating content that resonates with others. On the other hand, as an owner, I strive to create a brand that has customers returning for the quality customer service, along with quality products. The duality of perspectives, provides me with a better sense of how I can cater to my specific audience.
I am newer to social media, and building a community has been integral in growing my brand. Across Tik Tok, Instagram, and YouTube, my community is called The Becky Army. These are the people that support my business and all of my endeavors. In a short span of time, I am grateful to have come across so many incredible individuals that have shared their journey, triumphs, and struggles with me. By listening to their stories, I have come to realize that we share common ground in that our different experiences, challenges, and perspectives is what connects us.
My parents have always demonstrated a strong work ethic in my household while I was growing up. I find that the key to success is having resilience during tough times, staying disciplined, and striving for new goals that keep you motivated.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey hasn’t been a smooth road, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. On the influencer side of things, I have had to deal with internet trolls that hide behind a screen and write hurtful comments, even though they know nothing about me. I’ve learned that by putting yourself out there, you do need to develop thick skin. I have a great sense of humor, so I handle it well.
On the business side, I have no shame in saying that I lost money when I was just starting out. It is through trial and error that you learn what marketing strategies work. I remember that I would gift influencers products from my store, in exchange for a post or video on social media. Many times, they would collect the product and not create any content for it.
There is authenticity in admitting your faults and learning from them early on so you can grow as a business owner. Having the grit by overcoming obstacles you face, and staying the course is what will get you far in life. Often times, people are quick to give up due to a few minor bumps in the road.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is when someone comes across my content that I create, and I am able to make an impact in their lives, however small it may be. I’ll have someone tell me that I inspire them to start their own business, or that one of my videos brought some positivity to their day.
This makes me happy, because I am genuine with what I post, and I never try to be the “cool girl”. I love staying authentic to who I am as a person, which is reflected in the content I create.
