Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Peterkin
Stacey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m the owner of Behold Thy Beauty ®, Where I create beautiful handmade mirrors for your living and business space. I also love, love, love, love, love to inspire young ladies to be beautiful both Inside as well as out. I also have a online boutique where I offer unique, modest and fun fashion. Behold Thy Beauty was created back in 2017 out of a place of self discovery. Growing up I struggled with low self-esteem and confidence throughout middle and high school. I was bullied and picked on about the way I dressed and how I looked. I was like the ugly duckling and It caused me a lot of pain and depression that lead to other painful events in my life. Luckily, all of that change for me one day. At the age of 26 I gained enough courage to join a platform based community pageant. My platform was to help young single mothers find resources that will help them in the time of need. The judges loved my platform idea so much that I won in my division. I was sooo shocked when I won, because I didn’t expect to. The reason for that is because of my shyness and lack of belief that I could win anything. My expectation was to participate and take my loss and go back to life as usual. I was completely wrong and my life changed for the greater.
My winnings helped me to gain confidence and made me realize that we sometimes have to take a risk to see something new and different in our life. For the next three years I would go on to do a community baby shower with the help of a domestic violence organization I partnered with called, We Leap Inc. From then on I started to emerge and my inner beauty/light started to shine. I am a born-again believer in Jesus Christ and if you read about the life of Jesus when he was here on earth we can see how he came and preached the gospel of peace. He healed the broken in heart, he gave sight to the blind, he made the lame to walk, and my favorite he gives beauty for ashes. For those that don’t know ashes is a representation of the failures, heart aches, pain and disappointment in your life. These are some of many things that Jesus did while he was still on earth. Before he left he said that his followers would do great works also. In fact, in Ephesians 2:10 it reads, “that we are Gods workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works.” In my good works there is where I found my beauty. Doing good is very praiseworthy just ask the proverbs 31 woman. When I read the story of the proverbs 31 woman, I see that she was a woman that reverenced her creator, a business woman with virtue, she excelled in everything she put her hands to do. Her husband, children and community praised her because of her good works. Her character spoke volumes not her looks. That’s when I got a clue and realize that it’s not my outward beauty that’s important, but much more my heart. Behold Thy Beauty was birthed from that and is for each girl or woman that doesn’t think she is beautiful because of what she looks like or has been through. I want her to realize who she is on the inside first.
When she looks into one of my handmade mirrors I want her to see who she is or who she can be. A woman of God, kind, humble, peaceful, and the such like. The inside has to be fixed then the outward can be the icing on the cake. In 2020 I started my online boutique where I offer unique, modest and fun fashion. I create look books to showcase and give ideas on how to style modest apparel. I believe that modesty is important because it gives you space to be unique without compromising who you are and allows you to be creative and fun while your inner beauty shines through. I believe if unique, modest and fun fashion is promotes more we can change the views of our younger ladies in our society. We don’t have to show too much skin too be noticed and modesty isn’t boring. Modesty is a beautiful thing and it should be embraced. This is behold Thy beauty, stay blessed and stay beautiful.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The challenges that I had in my business was facing self doubt. I always knew I wanted to be in business and I knew I had something that could help young women who faced low self esteem just like I did. It’s just the same insecurities that I faced and overcame by challenging my fear such as joining the pageant and surprisingly winning, was the same insecurity that was trying to spring back up to make me believe I wasn’t qualified enough. Eventually with replacing lies with the truth of Gods word that tells me that he didn’t call many wise or many noble and that he used the weak things of the earth to confound the wise. I started to become stronger and my feet got to moving in the direction I believed he was leading me. That’s when I started to see victory and my confidence was through the roof
As you know, we’re big fans of Behold Thy Beauty . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in mirror making for your living and business space. I make mirrors for your walls or for your table/counter tops. There’s different styles of mirrors I create. Ranging from feathers, glass stones, pompoms, seashells and epoxy resin mirrors. Each mirror purchase there’s added treat with inspirational thoughts from myself. Encouraging my supporters to be beautiful both inside as well as out. My second service is my online boutique offering unique, modest and fun apparel. Not only do I offer the products but I give tips on how to style and wear them as well.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Everything in life is about taking risk. I believe that’s the only way we will succeed. Unless you were born into wealth and everything has been handed to you. Risk taking can be scary but I honestly believe you will thank yourself later that you did. After seeing all the little seeds that you’ve planted by taking small risk and looking behind years down the road of how it all has grown is a exciting feeling. I highly encourage everyone, it doesn’t matter what type of business you’re in. Take the risk and build. Don’t allow negativity of people to stop you or their unbelief in what you do. As long as it positive and good.
