Daily Inspiration: Meet Jasmine Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Wilson

Hi Jasmine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For over 20 years, I’ve been dedicated to the art of hair, turning my passion into a profession. My love for hair started early, inspired by watching my mom work her magic on women’s hair and seeing the joy and confidence they radiated when they left her chair. Eager to bring that same happiness to others, I began braiding the hair of my friends and neighbors, perfecting my craft with every style. In 2012, I took my skills to the next level by mastering the Sisterlocks™ technique, a transformative method that deepened my love for locs of all kinds. Since then, I’ve been on a mission to expand my expertise and offer the best in loc care. Understanding the importance of healthy hair, I developed my line of hair products designed to strengthen and nourish. My signature hair mist provides essential hydration for locs, protective styles, and natural hair, while my luxurious hair oil seals in moisture, ensuring every strand is vibrant and healthy. I craft these products with care, helping my clients embrace their hair journey with confidence and style.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve faced many obstacles like competitors, many other stylists are offering similar services, making it hard to stand out and attract clients. Client retention can become difficult because of our changing economy, attracting new clients is only part of the challenge; keeping them coming back requires excellent service, consistent results, and strong relationships. Marketing and Promotion require both time and can be costly for a small/start-up business. Pricing my services without devaluing my business was important in the beginning and still is. Managing my schedule to accommodate new clients while keeping existing ones happy was a logistical challenge.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a loctician, I specialize in the care, maintenance, and styling of locs.
Here’s what I do:
1. Loc Installation: I help people start their loc journey using techniques like twisting, braiding, or the Sisterlocks™ method. 2. Loc Maintenance: I keep locs looking neat and healthy by retightening or retwisting them, and I can repair any broken or thinning locs.
3. Consultation: I offer advice on how to care for locs, including product recommendations and maintenance routines to ensure your locs stay healthy.
4. Styling: I create various styles for locs, from updos to intricate designs, depending on what my clients are looking for.
5. Loc Health: I focus on the overall health of both your locs and scalp, providing treatments to prevent issues like dryness, thinning, or breakage.
My goal is to ensure your locs are healthy, clean, and beautifully maintained.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me as a loctician is the health and integrity of my clients’ hair, especially their locs. I focus on ensuring that their locs are maintained properly, promoting healthy hair growth, and using techniques and products that nourish both the hair and scalp. Building trust with my clients and creating a positive experience where they feel confident and satisfied with their hair is essential to me. I also prioritize continuously expanding my skills and knowledge to provide the best service possible.

Pricing:

  • Starting at $50 for washing and styling locs
