Conversations with Yassiel Carmona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yassiel Carmona.

Hi Yassiel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love for photography started from a very young age. My mom always kept hold of a ton of photographs throughout the years and going through all of them from time to time has taught me the importance of being able to go back and relive those moments. I was gifted my first camera back in 2013, where I mainly took pictures on my own. I was super into editing and while everything was done right on my phone and nothing close to Lightroom or Photoshop, I had the right idea of things. I was even able to briefly study photography in high school. A few years went by with me caught up with schooling, work, and sports, where I did not have much time for creativity and leaving my first camera to collect dust.

It wasn’t until the end of 2019 that I got my new camera and started up again. With the pandemic, I knew I had to step away from my corporate job to pursue something more along my career path as a Business Marketing major. Photography wasn’t something I thought I wanted to do down the road, but I am so glad that it has brought so many new opportunities for me. Fast forward a few months and a few sessions under my belt, I took a leap of faith and began offering sessions that turned out to be successful. This really pushed me and gave me the added confidence I needed to step out of my comfort zone when starting my business!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been the smoothest, and I’m sure anyone running their own ventures can agree to that. Juggling school, work, and starting my own business definitely becomes overwhelming at times. I didn’t always have the time to be as creative as I once was, but after all these years, it feels good to get back in touch with that side of me more. It takes a lot of inner work to get past periods of doubt, fear, and lack of inspiration – especially in the early stages. Being able to capture life’s sweet moments and meeting so many beautiful people is what keeps me going! Regardless of the timing and everything else going on in the world, I am glad that I started and I am excited for everything to continue to fall into place!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Yassiel Carmona Photography is primarily a mix of lifestyle and event photography. Including anything from couples, families, branding, weddings, and more. While I am still venturing out and finding my own unique style and niche, I am proud of the way I’ve learned to trust in divine timing and every step I have made in the right direction. My goal is to capture genuine moments that meant the most to my clients. I love photographing both those posed and candid “in-between” moments. Photos are timeless and such moments only come once, the fact that people trust me in doing so is something I am TRULY grateful for. I strive to be professional while also having that personal connection with everyone I come across because truthfully, it is more than just a few quick photos. I want my clients to feel confident and comfortable with me. Everyone deserves to be able to look back and remember what a good experience they had! What sets me apart from other photographers is being as young as I am and being born and raised in South Florida. I feel as though I am able to bring a unique perspective to the table. But what REALLY sets anyone apart is how they treat and make other people feel. It may sound cliché but staying true to yourself will only bring the best out of both you and your clients. I’ve found that these things will set you apart and people will naturally gravitate towards you!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
With social media, it has become easier to find and connect with the right people on a more personal level. This is a huge advantage to any business owner to show what makes them unique and attract ideal clients. I think as more people see all that goes into such businesses, they will be more open to trusting your product or service. As someone who is a social media enthusiast, it makes me very happy to be able to apply all that I’ve learned into a good client experience and growing my own business.
