Conversations with Tiffany Ellis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Ellis.

Hi Tiffany , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always had an interest in art and events, especially weddings. As a child I dreamed of being a wedding dress designer and had countless notebooks filled with sketches of my ideas. Like many I bought into the idea that “art doesn’t pay” and since my high school had a nursing program, and I genuinely wanted to help people heal, life took me in a different direction, and I became a nurse.

I would still decorate all my friends’ parties, plus throw a lot of my own, nothing as an official business, it was just for the love of it and wanting to help. The first wedding I ever took on was for my best friend’s brother. He was getting married and invited us to see the venue: a stunning mansion in Key Biscayne with sweeping ocean views and breathtaking sunsets. Naturally, I asked who was handling the design and décor. His response? “You.” Of course, my next question was how much time we had, and I will never forget his response “the wedding is next Friday”. Total freak out mode activated! I went shopping that same day and got to work. It was chaotic, yes, but it was also a defining moment because the whirlwind experience lit a spark in me that ultimately led me to where I am today.

About 5 years after that first wedding, I met my husband and his amazing group of friends, who not only inspired me to officially start this business, but also came up with the original name The Ministry of Décor (a little Harry Potter reference). For the first years of running the business I still worked as a nurse, mostly out of fear that I wouldn’t “make it”. But in 2024, I took the leap and went full time, fully dedicating myself to MOD Events, our mission, and what we stand for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Any business owner that tells you starting and running a business is smooth sailing is not telling the full story. There have been plenty of struggles, some internal like imposter syndrome (which took some time to overcome), and others external like growing pains, learning to pivot, and trusting others to handle the roles you hired them for. But even with the challenges, it’s all been so worth it. No one ever said following your dreams would be easy.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At MOD Events, we specialize in creating personalized, unique, and fun experiences of all kinds. We make it a point to incorporate something fresh and different into every event. Even our vendors have told us how interesting and eclectic our events and clients are—and I love that. Nothing we do is cookie-cutter. Like life, every celebration is different, and we want each one to reflect who our client is and what they’re celebrating.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The event industry is constantly evolving, and I’m especially loving the current mix of modern and vintage styles. There’s something so beautiful about combining soft fabric draping on tables and backdrops with bold, artful floral arrangements. I feel like we’re entering an era of statement design—opulence through layered textures, patterns, and standout sections that give every event its own wow moments.

Uniformity is fading, and I’m here for it. Give me serpentine tables mixed with rounds and royals, all styled cohesively without being identical. It creates visual interest and delivers a more elevated, curated look for guests to enjoy.
