Today we’d like to introduce you to CARLOS BONILLA.
CARLOS, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am Carlos Bonilla ” Thombs” a music producer, composer, DJ, and marketer. I started my career as a DJ 15 years ago while studying music production, and later fully dedicated myself to music. I have created remixes for artists such as Bomba Estéreo, Pitbull, Mau y Ricky, and Karol G.
Some of my tracks have been synchronized with Zumba Fitness and featured in video games like Just Cause 4 on Xbox and PlayStation 4. At the same time, I completed a specialization in marketing at Hard Business School.
I have worked with companies focused on music for DJs and producers, such as DJcity, Beatport, and Plugin Boutique, contributing to their growth and positioning in the Latin American market. Currently, I am producing my upcoming album in collaboration with Latin artists, incorporating Latin electronic music influences, and I look forward to presenting it in shows for Art Basel in Wynwood.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At the beginning, one of the main challenges was the language, as I am Colombian. I also had to work hard to establish myself in the music industry while balancing both studying and working at the same time. This required sacrificing important moments and managing my finances carefully in order to invest in myself and my growth.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I focus on creating music, writing songs, producing remixes, and getting my work played by DJs around the world. I also specialize in positioning U.S. and European music companies within the Latin American market.
I have been nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards, and I live between Latin America and the United States, which has given me a broad cultural understanding of the music industry.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
When I first connected with the piano and music as a whole, I felt deep within my soul that I wanted to become a musician and that this would turn into my passion. That encounter with art has been one of the greatest gifts from my childhood. Being able to bring my creativity to life through music is one of the most powerful feelings a human being can experience.
