Conversations with Stevi Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stevi Allen.

Hi Stevi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I remember begging my mom to go to cosmetology school when I was about 16 years old and she said I had to go to college. So, I did! I graduated, got a “big girl” job, and worked my way up the corporate ladder. By the time I was 24 years old, I was making well in to the six figures as an executive in the sports supplement industry. I felt a ton of pressure to keep going higher and higher in terms of success and, even though I did not feel fulfilled, I kept going. At 29, I went through a divorce and gave up everything I had worked so hard for in my twenties to be free from that relationship. Although, it was extremely stressful and overwhelming, I had never felt more sure about my life path. From that period on, I decided to only pursue what I was passionate about and not make my life so much about getting a paycheck. I no longer had a fear of the unknown because I had nothing to lose. Not too long after this experience, I met the love of my life and found out I was pregnant. My corporate job at the time required a lot of travel and I knew that would not work for me with a family. I am a mother first and foremost and I want to be home every night to tuck my son in to bed and eat dinner with my man. Family is everything to me and I knew that whatever I chose to pursue, it had to allow me to be home every night. I started thinking about what I wanted to do and kept going back to what I was most passionate about. The biggest thing that makes me happy is making people feel beautiful. I have done countless faces of makeup for free since I was in high school. Every wedding I have ever attended, I have done the bride’s makeup as well as the bridal party. I LOVE finding something about someone’s face and bringing it out in the best way possible.

My fiancé is a very successful hairstylist and suggested I get into permanent makeup. He believed in me more than I believed in myself because I felt so out of place in the beauty industry. I soon took a course to become certified with The Brow Effect in Miami, FL and then, learned Scalp Micropigmentation with the best artist in the industry, Seif Sidky at International Hairlines Academy. I am obsessively in love with the art of cosmetic tattooing. Everything I learned in my past life business-wise, I can pull from now. I feel like my whole life finally makes sense because I am right where I need to be and love what I do. Looking back, my mother not allowing me to go to cosmetology school, put me on the best path for success. The path I took to get where I am today put me exactly where I am supposed to be.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Everyone has a journey and nobody successful has had a smooth road. Part of success is overcoming obstacles, improving, and just not giving up. My biggest struggle was giving up everything in my divorce. I felt like I had wasted my entire 20’s and had nothing to show for it. I went through a serious depression for the years leading up to that decision. Looking back, I laugh because what I gave up is nothing compared to what I have now. That experience taught me that material things do not matter. Happiness, peace, and being your authentic self is what is most important. When I first started doing cosmetic tattooing, I struggled with feeling like an “outsider” in the beauty industry. I see all of these artists who have 15+ years under their belt and here I am just starting out in my 30’s. This is something I still battle with; however, I feel like it also keeps me humble and hungry to always learn more and do my absolute best. In to everything and doing my best. We all have to start somewhere and my start.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a licensed and insured cosmetic tattoo artist serving South Florida. I specialize in brows, lips, and scalp micro-pigmentation. I am known for posting fun reveal videos on my Instagram @The_InkAngel and going above and beyond to make sure each client leaves my studio feeling like they had an epic experience. I am most proud of hitting the ground running in this industry and simply making things work. I started off doing brows and lips and then decided to offer micro scalp pigmentation to my clients. Scalp Micro-pigmentation is an aesthetic tattoo form of hair replacement for people with thinning or balding hairlines. SMP scared me the most because I have seen quite a few terrible botched jobs. I wanted to make sure I knew exactly what I was doing before I offered the service so, I trained with Seif Sidky and became an affiliate with his company, International Hairlines. Being a licensed affiliate with him means a lot to me because I have the support most other people do not have when it comes to continuing my education to ensure my clients have the absolute best results possible.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I truly love what I do and am here to help. If you have any questions about cosmetic tattooing or even want to get in to the business, shoot me a DM on Instagram.
