Conversations with Marvin Dupiton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvin Dupiton.

Hi Marvin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
A graduate of Florida State University I began working at Men’s Wearhouse soon after. I was a full-time store manager and began to really engage within the realm of Men’s fashion. Styling professional consultant and styling wedding parties and putting together looks for individuals (college student, professionals and just fashion lovers) around the city of Tallahassee, I began to a true passion for it. While starting my master’s program at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, I began creating a business in which I felt could serve and cater to black professionals. I felt as if the styles of bow ties and ties at Men’s Wearhouse didn’t necessarily cater to our stylish ways and the colors were reserved and weren’t vibrant. Before starting Sharp Crisp Clean, I began learning how to sew and make the products on my own, specifically bow ties. One of the Tailors showed me how to create a pattern as well as make the bow ties. So in 2016, I embarked on a journey of my love and passion and started Sharp Crisp Clean and never looked back.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggles I would say that has occurred along the way are 1. Creating styles and patterns you like but necessarily your customers may not like. 2. Funding for Marketing & products. 3. Inspiration to do everything for the business as you grow but while also in school getting a masters degree now finishing my doctorate degree. 4. Money as well as adapting to social media marketing. 5. Just continuing to stay consistent and pour all the energy you have while also working.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My other passion is college athletics and working in higher education. College athletics is something I’m very proud of which is why I worked in Athletics at FAMU as well as Louisiana State University (LSU) and countless other places. I decide to pursue my doctorate in higher education and impact college athletes and higher education to the best of my ability.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The harder you work and the more consistent you are, you will create the luck needed to take a step forward. I’m still creating those areas and venues daily.
