Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Emerick.
Taylor, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My sister Morgan and myself own the salon together. We started on a shoestring budget as the previous salon we worked at was going out of business. We just scraped together what we could and took a leap of faith. That was three years ago.
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning a business is never a smooth road. If anyone ever tells you that they are lying. It is both demanding and rewarding. There are days where I wanted to run away and days where I felt amazing and accomplished.
One day, our hair sink started leaking everywhere. My sister was running around in circles, I was crying into the sink because that was my rock bottom for the day. In the midst of that chaos, the Fire Marshal came in. It all worked out and now, we laugh about it.
So, my advice to young women starting a business is, stay focused, but remember self-care is important. You are creating a brand and offering an environment. Stay true to yourself no matter what.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Beleza Boutique Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in blonding, my sister Morgan specializes in balayage and Sabrina specializes in extensions, wigs and hair pieces. So, together, we can completely transform our clients. We are an art-focused salon with a very warm environment. Our clients become fast friends and we love them all. I also use the salon to show and sell my artwork which I included in the pictures.
We dedicate ourselves to ensuring that our guests are comfortable and leave happy
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
I grew up with a very hard working mother. But she was also fun and let me bring all the neighborhood kids in to put on full productions of Broadway shows where I did all of the hair and makeup while pretty much trashing the house. It was awesome and I think that was the start of my love of the arts.
