Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Wiles.
Sara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After 8+ years in the corporate events industry and another in the startup space, one tear-filled day, I took charge of what I wanted my career and life to look like. I was over the corporate grind and 24/7 emails. Mostly, I was over the stress and anxiety of NOT being present in my baby son’s life.
I started my business so that I could live life on MY terms. So that I could be with my son full-time and replace my corporate income working from home part-time. I worked my butt off, but on the other side was a sweet reward NOT just more work.
Have you ever been in a situation where the stars aligned and everything you asked the universe for came back to you in spades? When I opened my first Virtual Assisting business, that’s exactly what happened.
Within eight days of starting the business, I signed my first client.
Two weeks later, I left my corporate job.
Another two weeks and I had the clients (and income) to replace my 9-5 salary.
Within months, I added contractors to my team, took on more clients and scaled to 10K+ months.
Most importantly, I was finally the present, engaged mother that I so deeply wanted to be.
After transitioning from a Virtual Assistant to an Online Business Manager with a team of eight Virtual Assistants working for me, I felt pulled to create a bigger impact.
Now, I help women start and scale online done-for-you service-based businesses in weeks instead of years as an Online Business Mentor.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fear of judgment, fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of success… you name it, I’ve probably been there. Getting support from friends, family, and mentors, choosing myself over my fears and believing that success is possible in the way I desire it to be is what’s helped me go from thinking about my business to actually thriving in it.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m an online business mentor for done-for-you service providers. These are usually people who call themselves Virtual Assistants, Online Business Managers, and Social Media Managers. I support them in starting or scaling their businesses in weeks instead of years through structured mentoring and coaching that focuses on Marketing, Mindset and Business Operations.
I’m most proud that I’ve made it a non-negotiable in my business to have a giving back program. Each month, I donate 20% of the profits from my Masterclass to the non-profit Together Rising. I feel so strongly that as a successful, privileged woman it’s my JOB to give back to those who are less fortunate than I am. I love that I’ve found a way to help my audience feel like they get to do that too and marketing my masterclasses so that they know when they purchase a seat in class part of that fee gives back.
What sets me apart from others is that I can help people create massively profitable businesses that also provide them with work-life balance. Many of the women I serve are mothers and I help them to create work-from-home businesses that allow them to be present for themselves and their children, too. I also provide my clients with hot leads from online business owners that are looking for VAs, OBMs or SMMs.
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Get clarity around what you want your mentor to provide you with. Is it marketing support? Is it mindset support? Is it launch support? Figure out what you’d most benefit from and get results around and then seek out someone specific to that need.
I also ALWAYS hire mentors who are a few steps ahead of me in my business and are currently at where I want to take my business in the next 6-12 months.
