Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Novo.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey started like many — with a bad breakup.
In 2008, I was starting my writing career, when my boyfriend at the time, suggested I start a blog. So, I did. And then, two weeks later, he dumped me. I was left with the blog, which kind of felt like being left with the dog you never really liked but pretended to like to make your partner happy.
Hurt and lost, I came up with this brilliant idea to turn the blog into a diary of my new dating life in hopes that my ex would come running back. Spoiler alert: he did not. But the blog did kickoff the beautiful career I have today.
I started to write about my journey of trying to love and accept myself while also trying to find true love. I wanted both, but sometimes they felt like two exclusive desires.
While writing, I was gaining certifications in hypnosis, Reiki, energy healing, and mediumship. I really had no plan to use the certifications professionally. I was just acquiring them for my own healing. But as the blog took off, I was called to start teaching. So, I did.
Today, my work is all about helping people get on their soul’s path and helping them understand the spiritual lessons that show up in their everyday lives. I focus continues to be on dating and relationship, because I feel it is such a sacred time in a woman’s life, yet we rarely see it that way. My intention is to help women heal during that time so they may create a future that is true to what their soul really intended for this lifetime. Rather than just creating a life based on fear and hurt.
I started as a writer and editor for several online publications, like MSN, NBC, and Refinery29. Early in my career, I was an associate editor at Miami magazine.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been several obstacles — almost all of them being internal struggles, of course.
One thing I continue to learn is how much we resist where our life is trying to take us. I am constantly trying to check in to make sure I’m following the flow of my life, but the truth is I’ve gotten it wrong many times. I think I’m supposed to be going one way, and when I go that way, things don’t work out and if they do it’s very slow or not what I expected.
For a long time, I just thought it would take hard work and “one day” I would see some sort of traction. But I kept working and things would just trickle in when I was expecting more of a waterfall.
Finally, I started to look outside my own agenda and pay attention to where I was being called to. Reluctantly, I followed the flow of my life rather than direct where and how I thought things should work out. When I started to be more open is when I started to see big “floods.”
It’s not always easy to trust and follow our life’s flow because it requires a lot of faith — faith, that often feels blind. But in my experience, in the trust is where we begin to receive the most.
What should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My most popular offering is my one-on-one reading. Before meeting with the client, I sit in meditation reading their energy, receiving messages, and understanding what is holding them back. Once we’re on the phone, we talk about what came up during my meditation which always offers the client a lot of clarity and peace. And if the client has a passed loved one they would like to communicate with, we do that as well.
I also teaching in-person and online dating workshops to help women find their person in a way that feels aligned with their soul.
My newest offerin, is a dating book I have coming out in October 2018.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I feel a lot of the barriers exist within us. As women, we have a lot of wounds and programming that have been taught to us from our society. The messaging that tells us we need to be perfect and traditional is so subtle, so we barely notice that it’s happening, which is why it’s so hard for us to overcome.
The suffering female leaders experience feels very lonely most of the time. Very few of us have the luxury of being around or in contact with other female leaders who are leading with divine femininity, rather than the masculine, which is what has been taught to us. And guess what? We’re women. The masculine way of leading does not work for us. Period.
