Conversations with the Inspiring Jocelyn Castillo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Castillo.

Jocelyn Castillo is the founder and blogger behind Chasing Carpe Diem, a personal online diary where she documents her travels and adventures. Born and raised in Nicaragua, Jocelyn as a young girl was always curious about what life would be like in places outside of her own country. Given the opportunity, she and her family fled Nicaragua to Miami where she continued her education and graduated with a BA in Communications at Florida International University. Jocelyn was bitten by the travel bug and started traveling during her early years in college where she coincidently started her blog as a way to escape her studies. Unknowingly, she was growing a following that loved her adventures as a solo-female traveler and inspired them to follow suit. Through many cities and mountain hikes, her passion for travel has only intensified and she has since dedicated her blog to help those who seek adventure. It is her mission to help you experience life through travel and see beyond your comfort zone. Jocelyn has worked with brands such as Lexus, Hotel Tonight, Aerie, Marriott, and Skyscanner to name a few. She has also been featured in Cosmopolitan magazine as most influential to look out for in their 2018 February issue.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I think for the most part I’ve struggled with staying true to ‘why I started’ and not comparing myself to anyone else’s success. Finding a niche that’s my own is also something I’ve had a hard time finding and of course always working with brands that I truly love. I think for anyone who wants to start blogging or travel blogging, I would recommend, they start within their own cities. Talk about places and things that you would recommend someone visit. Network! Attend events in your city and have a good support system.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into CHASING CARPE DIEM story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a lifestyle and travel blogger. I recommend and share my travels and passion for self-love and care. Whether it’s getting to know yourself through an adventure or right at home in the comfort of your surroundings. I love sharing my tips to finding the getaway that is very much needed or what I am currently reading or wearing. Being in your twenties is hard and learning about ourselves can sometimes be difficult and I love sharing with my following how they are very much not alone in this. As a brand, I’m most proud about the events I’ve hosted. Recently, Feel Frida Be Yourself. It was an event for all women to come together and share insight on how the internet is making us feel. It was amazing to see so many of us come together and recognize that everything that you see online is mostly curated and by no means does it say that our lives are not ‘perfect’ because they are not like the ones that are portrayed online. I think what sets me apart from other brands is the way I relay my message and how expressive I can be sometimes. I like being a source for my online friends and if there’s anything I can ever do, I’d like for them to know I am a DM away.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Follow your gut! Don’t question it, it knows exactly what you need to do… so follow it!
