Today we’d like to introduce you to Henna Ali.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been into drawing, painting, and doing henna tattoos (like my name) since I was 6 years old. Which is where I think my inspiration for makeup, fashion and creating DIY’s have come from. Now, I upload beauty, lifestyle and craft videos and pictures on YouTube as well as Instagram. Along the way, I’ve also loved to help others no matter it is in school or with crafting which comes in handy with what I like to do online.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
During the process of finally pursuing what I believe is my passion, I’ve definitely faced several obstacles and continue to do so. These struggles include the funds to finance some of the projects I want to do for some videos. Another major struggle is not getting much support from family or friends on what I want to do as a content creator. Lastly, being a full-time student and finding the time to balance time for school and YouTube. But in the end, I’ve managed to graduate with a bachelors in communication and create a supportive audience through my YouTube and Instagram. The best advice is to not give up on your passion even if it feels like it’s impossible and doesn’t worry about what others think. If you really want something your drive to achieve it will help you find a way to get it to work out.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Henna Ali story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m known for creating DIY’s on my YouTube like how to create your own makeup vanity on a budget, DIY Marble Furniture, and show others how they can get free makeup by just being on social media. When it comes to beauty, I’m known for doing transformation looks like turning into a mummy, Pocahontas as well as different makeup tutorials.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I find the source of inspiration within people I meet every day. People who work hard inspire me to only work harder and never stop till I reach my goal and more. One of my inspirations is Michelle Phan who was one of the first to post beauty videos on YouTube. The way she’s worked and has created a huge empire that is now followed by millions of women all over the world.
