Today we’d like to introduce you to Biana Comfort.
Biana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I first met my husband, he told me that I reminded him of his mother. I took that as a big compliment. She was an artist, after all, with grand ideas and a real appreciation for beauty. The concept for cliff+b jewelry came to me from our travels and became a way of capturing the feeling one gets when they are fully immersed in their favorite city. It’s like time stops and there’s only bliss.
For me that magical place is Paris, hence the “French Kiss” – the name of my first collection. In a sense, I wanted to create a way of honoring that emotion, the suspended space and time in a form of a keepsake. To create jewelry was a natural extension of my art background and a way of paying homage to both my husband and his mother.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being committed to creating and manufacturing the pieces in the States has been a challenge. There are so many moving parts to this business that people don’t think about. They see a simple design and think that the process would also be simple. To me, our lips are a work of art and the people making each one by hand pour their love into each detail involved.
what should we know about cliff+b jewelry? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I started out as a fashion blogger. That was my first baby, fashionwhipped.com. As I connected more and more with my readers, I felt compelled to create something that I could share with them. I am so proud that my idea has affected so many people’s lives for the better. From the women who covet my pieces and tell me every day how much they love them to the people working in our workshop. It all started with an idea, so you see anything is possible.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I have found that if it wasn’t for the women in this field paving the way for me, helping me make connections and setting my brand up for success, I would be nowhere. Women supporting women is our best asset and I have been very fortunate to have surrounded myself with women that empower and support me every day.
