Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Rodriguez Bonilla.
Hi Teresa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Throughout my career as a dietitian, one question has consistently guided my work: Why do people respond so differently to the same nutritional approach?
I grew up in Puerto Rico, where my early curiosity about nutrition and metabolic health first began. Early in my career, I noticed that many individuals living with chronic health conditions were not improving with conventional dietary recommendations alone. That realization sparked a deeper exploration into metabolic biochemistry, functional nutrition, and more individualized approaches to human health.
Around 2015, after facing my own personal health challenges, my perspective on nutrition shifted in a profound way. I began studying metabolic and therapeutic nutrition more deeply and came to understand that nutrition could be far more than a tool for general wellness—it could serve as a powerful lever to influence metabolism, restore physiological balance, and support the body’s natural healing processes.
Over time, my work evolved into a systems-based approach that integrates functional nutrition, metabolic pathway science, nutrigenomics, and lifestyle medicine. Through this work, I developed the Metabolic Activation Method™, a framework designed to identify and support key metabolic pathways involved in inflammation regulation, mitochondrial energy production, hormonal balance, and long-term metabolic resilience.
Today my focus centers on precision metabolic nutrition—helping individuals understand how their metabolism functions so they can actively participate in restoring and maintaining their health. I also collaborate with clinicians internationally across fields such as longevity medicine, hormone optimization, regenerative medicine, and chronic disease prevention.
At the heart of my work is a simple mission: to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools to transform their health by addressing the metabolic roots of disease.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like many meaningful journeys, my path has not always been a smooth one. One of the earliest challenges in my career was recognizing that many patients with complex chronic conditions were not improving with conventional nutritional approaches alone. That realization created a profound sense of responsibility to look beyond traditional models and search for deeper, more effective solutions.
Another challenge was working in a field that was still rapidly evolving. When I first began exploring areas such as functional nutrition, nutrigenomics, and precision metabolic interventions, these concepts were not widely understood in clinical practice. Pursuing this path required extensive self-education, ongoing research, and the willingness to question established paradigms about how nutrition influences human physiology.
My own personal health experiences also played a significant role in shaping my work. Facing those challenges pushed me to study metabolic therapies more deeply and ultimately strengthened my commitment to understanding the biological mechanisms that drive health and disease.
Looking back, those obstacles became pivotal turning points in my professional journey. They led me to develop a systems-based approach to nutrition that integrates metabolic pathways, genetics, and lifestyle medicine. Today, those experiences allow me to guide both patients and clinicians with a deeper understanding of how complex chronic conditions can be addressed through precision metabolic nutrition.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Curious Mind RD, LLC?
Curious Mind RD, LLC is a precision nutrition and metabolic health practice dedicated to helping individuals understand the deeper biological drivers behind health and disease. My work integrates functional nutrition, metabolic pathway science, and nutrigenomics to develop highly personalized strategies that support long-term metabolic resilience and overall well-being.
With more than three decades of clinical experience, I specialize in complex metabolic and inflammatory conditions, hormonal balance, and advanced metabolic optimization. My work frequently intersects with fields such as longevity medicine, hormone replacement therapy, regenerative medicine, and chronic disease prevention.
One of the defining aspects of my practice is the development of the Metabolic Activation Method™, a systems-based framework designed to identify and support key metabolic pathways involved in mitochondrial energy production, inflammation regulation, detoxification, and hormonal signaling. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, this approach aims to address the deeper metabolic mechanisms that influence health, resilience, and long-term vitality.
What sets my work apart is the integration of multiple layers of biological information—including genetics, microbiome analysis, metabolic signaling pathways, and environmental influences—to design truly individualized nutritional strategies. This systems perspective allows us to better understand why individuals respond differently to the same nutritional interventions and how targeted metabolic support can restore balance.
What I am most proud of is the impact this work has had on helping individuals regain metabolic resilience and improve their quality of life. Many patients who previously struggled with chronic health conditions have been able to restore their health and performance by gaining a deeper understanding of their metabolism and applying targeted nutritional strategies.
Ultimately, my goal with Curious Mind RD is to help move nutrition science toward a more precise, personalized, and systems-based model of care—one that empowers both individuals and clinicians with deeper insight into metabolic health, disease prevention, and human performance.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time with my family during holidays and celebrations. Growing up in Puerto Rico, those moments were filled with laughter, music, and the warmth of being surrounded by loved ones. The kitchen and the table were always at the center of those gatherings, bringing everyone together through food and shared traditions.
Those early experiences taught me something that has stayed with me throughout my life: food is much more than nourishment—it is connection, culture, and community. Looking back, those simple moments around the table helped shape my appreciation for the powerful role food plays not only in health, but also in how we relate to one another and care for those we love.1
