Community Highlights: Meet Taylor Ramirez of Oohlala

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Ramirez.

Hi Taylor, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my career at the young age of 16 years old, I began my career being the youngest to start beauty school. During my time as a beauty school student, I experienced a tremendous amount of heartache in the years to come, loosing my father early on in my career was tough but pushed me to be the best I possibly could in my career as a cosmetologist, I wanted to make him proud and I wanted to change the “your just a hairstylist “ outlook on being cosmetologists.

I started my career as an assistant, was promoted to the front desk, and traveled to many salons to work every position I could in a salon to get the different aspects of each position. From assistant to the front desk to manager to co-owner, In 14 years of being in the industry, I went above and beyond. Taking on any obstacle I possibly could. I became a certified colorist, and I attended an available event, to continue my education.

Specializing in makeup, extensions wedding events, and training under some of the best stylists in the world for hair cutting, coloring, and even men’s haircuts! With all the knowledge I received I wanted to share that with others who wanted to take on the same journey and become a cosmetologist, so I then became an educator to share my story and my knowledge in 2021 I became a Paul Mitchell learning leader with over 50 students.

I wanted to make cosmetology FUN! I traveled to salons and shared my knowledge. I worked at lady Gaga events, Oprah events, and events with JVN. Taking my career to a new level, I became a colorist and makeup artist at ocean reef club in key largo fl. Meeting some well-known people and working with a higher-end clientele. Being a cosmetologist is so much more than “cutting hair “ it is a passion. A passion to create!

To make others feel and look beautiful! It is the most rewarding feeling as I turn my chair around and see people smile! I have a lifelong clientele. Co-workers that became family! Clients that have become incredible friends and a career that I plan to have for the rest of my life. I took some time off to have a beautiful baby girl. And can only hope she will become a second-generation hairstylist.

Being a cosmetologist is not “easy” you are a professional, a therapist, and a soaking sponge of energy all day. You have long hours, long weekends, and time well spent. You don’t wake up and become the best! You train, educate, share knowledge, and then find a place for your career that is home. Ocean reefs salon oohlala is my home, it is where I make happiness it is where I form my art I share My gift and talent with others and it is where my success has brought me. I am a proud cosmetologist!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth ride. I lost my father at the beginning of my career 5 months later, I lost my uncle, and two years later, my grandmother. Along the way I learned that this industry has so many opportunities! You meet so many different people you deal with so many different personalities you learn how to be a artist a friend a therapist. Challenges along the way would be finding a home in hair , I do believe it is important to keep an open mind and really allow yourself room to grow, continuing education and investing in yourself , even things you may think you “can’t do” just to push through and know that hard work does pay off . I would say that is definitely not easy at all it requires true passion to strive. Learning to humble yourself and be collaborative not competitive.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What separates me from the rest is that my passion and education within the industry has given me opportunities to not only educate my peers but to educate my clients, knowledge is power and I believe educating your clients to give them knowledge to understand a stylist perspective and change the outlook of the industry.
I specialize in color, fantasy colors, bayalage, highlights, or even a simple retouch. The formulation for me is FUN! I can look at a person and already know their formula. By training under the best in the industry I am now able to (as we say ) “speak the language. I enjoy working with a variety of brands as they are all different in ways of being translucent or more opec. I’d say, Kevin Murphy, Goldwell, and Pulpriot are my go-to brands.

My journey to get where I wanted to be and continue to climb the ladder of success sets me apart from others. Not limiting myself in my career offering all my knowledge as an educator and every service as a cosmetologist. I am known for my special event updos, my educational skills, and most of all my color experience.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very outgoing! I never met a stranger,  I was always in the mirror trying on makeup, dancing with a brush as a microphone, I was the loud one! The funny one, definitely a jokester. I was very well known in school. I was a Daddy’s girl, was very active in sports, and loved Dance!
