Today we’d like to introduce you to Irvon Plummer.
Hi Irvon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Well, let me start off by saying I have always had a passion for two things which are impacting the next generation and helping others. I would never have guessed that my passion for seeing others succeed would lead me into the profession I am in today.
Originally, I started off as an event coordinator. I loved to see the outcome of something I directly had my hands on from beginning to end. At the same time, I worked in the education field as a Program Director for multiple After School Programs. I would assume that growing up in a huge family had something to do with my love for children. Out of my passion for children and teens, I was able to develop a community giveback program called Sh0p With a Boss.
I had already been an entrepreneur for a few years at this point, but something inside me wanted me to begin to dive deeper into entrepreneurship. That is where I truly began to learn all the ins and outs of being a real entrepreneur. I began to develop the same passion I had for helping others, applied that same drive to the love of entrepreneurship, and combined it all with my passion for children and teens. That is how the Entrepreneur Education and Development Center Inc. (TEEDC) was birthed.
I firmly believe it takes a village to get where you want to be. Without the support of God, family, friends and, of course, my late mother, I don’t think I would be in the position I am today. In the position to impact so many different people across many different races, religions, financial statuses and so on. I may not have everything that my heart desires, but what I do have is community. Frankly, that is what’s most important. Community comes with everything you need. It comes with accountability, love, rebuke, and so much more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth Road? No. Challenges? Yes. Rewarding? Most Definitely.
I learned a long time ago that when you love what you do, it’s not hard to accept the difficulties that may come with accomplishing the things you set out to do. There are times where I have felt and still do feel that I don’t have the resources I need to succeed. Not only financial resources, but also things a team to uphold the vision I have. There are also times where I feel like throwing in the towel and handing over my mission to someone else. But when you take a look at it, what good does that do?
What good does it do you to give your all and simply give up because the ride to success and greatness has begun to get turbulent? I had to learn to bask in my “now moments” knowing that everything would eventually work out for my good. No matter if the atmosphere around you says that it’s going to storm, be reminded that after the rain there will come sunshine.
We’ve been impressed with Entrepreneur Education and Development Center Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Entrepreneur Education and Development Center Inc. (501c3 Non-Profit Organization) is a safe haven for dreams and aspirations. It’s place where people of all walks of life can be a part of a community of people whose life desire is to impact their community through entrepreneurship, giving, and positive change. We have three leading goals.
Our first is to create an environment where children and teens can freely express themselves though entrepreneurship. That is done through our #BeGreatRegardless Young Entrepreneur Program. #BeGreatRegardless Young Entrepreneur Camp is geared to students with a high level of interest in entrepreneurship. Through fun games, activities, group projects, and a business simulation program, students learn business and marketing strategy, teamwork, and essential problem-solving and leadership skills. This one-day camp is filled with interesting and challenging activities to help students learn the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and creating a start-up business.
Our second goal is to introduce and pair children and teens with community leaders as mentors; through our #BeGreatRegardless Young Entrepreneur Program as well as our Shop With a Boss Community Giveback Initiative. Shop With a Boss is a National Program that provides financial assistance to hundreds of inner-city families each year during the winter holiday season. Financial assistance comes in the form of a fun-filled day for children and teens going on a $100 shopping spree. We partner with entrepreneurs, creatives, business owners and everyday people to create a shopping spree experience like no other.
Lastly, it’s our goal partner and build viable relationships with public and private organizations to provide opportunities and resources that will broaden our children’s experiences that strengthen their intellect, self-esteem, and social well-being.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success has many different faces but to me success is simply being the best you possible. That’s it. nothing more and nothing less. Once you become the best you, then everything else will do its job and follow.
