Today we’d like to introduce you to Migdalia Pace.
Migdalia, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. I was always drawing in paper plates female figures. Stared taking fashion illustration in high school at the Central High of Visual Arts. Illustrating Fashion defined my style of female illustrations.
When I moved to West Palm Beach my friend Denise introduced me to this new art scene at The Lounge. They had a themed event once a month with local artists that would sell there work and had a main Body Artist doing live painting. I fell in love, and that is where my art started evolving what is right now.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I illustrate female Day of Dead or Catrinas inspired mermaids a non-mermaid as well. My illustrations are ink, color pencil, and markers and I also screen print my art in shirts.
I love the Day of the Dead Celebration the Mexican tradition celebrating there loved ones that passed away. That is my main inspiration in my art.
The female illustrations that I create are not fragile, or weak. They are strong, powerful and unique, like a superhero. They represent a woman’s beauty and independence.
The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
There is always going to be an obstacle in your way that demotivate you. Like a bad show, raining at an event that you expected to be awesome (that’s the worse, lol).
You have to always look for new ways to sell your art and grow followers that love what you do and would promote you because they believe in what you do. That is the best selling secret and meeting amazing other artist and crafters in the way that you learn and support each other along the way.
Remember it takes time, perseverance and love of what you do to grow. There is no overnight fame. Keep doing your thing.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
