Today we’d like to introduce you to Khori.
Hi Khori, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
I’m Khori, singer/songwriter in Orlando, FL. I currently attend the University of Central Florida as an Entertainment Management major and a Music minor. I was born and raised in Saginaw, MI and it wasn’t until my family moved to Orlando my sophomore year in high school that my music career kickstarted. I didn’t know anyone in the city so to pass the time I created an Instagram account and started to build from there. After experimenting musically with different covers and paying attention to the responses that I was receiving, I developed my own sound. From that I was blessed with opportunities to be in studio sessions with Rodney Jerkins, Ayo The Producer, and Keyz.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like millions around the world, the recent pandemic has been one of my biggest obstacles in 2020. As an artist, perfecting my craft is an ongoing task. Personally, not being able to go to the studio and work like normal was very challenging as music has become therapeutic for me. Fortunately, instead of letting everything going on hold me back, I decided to use it to my advantage. Rather than waiting for the world to get back into the swing of things, I chose to be ready by the time that day comes. Heading out to ATL and working with amazing producers and writers has pushed me out of my comfort zone and stretched my mind to the point where the music in 2021 is going to get better and better with each song.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My first single, forever, was released March 2020. Soon after that it made its radio debut on 104.5 The Beat in Orlando (shoutout to DJ Gryo). My latest song, Wasted, recently surpassed 1 million streams across all platforms within only five months of its release. Coming up this year I plan on putting out my first project! Stay updated on what’s to come by following me @official. khori.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Being a writer it is very important to me that I read and expand my vocabulary daily. Currently I am reading “I Saw You as a Flower” by Ellen Everett. Also having a lot to juggle between school, music, and working a part time job, life can get hectic. Therefore, Evernote is my favorite app right now as it keeps me organized.
