Today we’d like to introduce you to Renata Pfuner.
Renata, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Design was always my passion. I remember as a child spending hours and hours in furniture stores. When I started to furnish my first condo and later my house, I handpicked each item very carefully; I dedicated a lot of time designing my own unique pieces. I was obsessed to create an environment that was calm and inviting and at the same time dramatic and surprising. Many of my friends asked me to design their homes or wanted to buy my furniture. – But I never considered to work as an interior designer; it was more a hobby. Only when I was hired by a homebuilder/developer in South Florida, I realized that I could turn my passion into a profession.
When I founded my interior design company, Pfuner Design, 12 years ago, my main focus was to enrich people’s lives with beautiful environments. But after my first recognition and design awards, I wanted to go a step further and add a holistic approach to my design work. “Space is more than an interior – it is, or should be, a source of positive energy: welcoming, surprising, dramatic even.”
What is important to me is to create chromatic synergy and visual fluidity between the elements in a space. When there is a balance – and it can be achieved through the use of pattern and color, arrangement of furniture and decoration, lighting or architectural features – everything just feels right. A subtle sense of order occurs.
I help my clients to create a home that allows them to live a more fulfilled lifestyle, rather than creating an interior that is merely a fashion statement.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
My work requires being involved and work hand-in-hand with other artisans, architects, and designers. But, sure, I know that it can be quite challenging. Being an entrepreneur – artist or business owner, working as a single person or with a team – at the end of the day we are the ones that make final decisions and will be health responsible for the outcome.
The best advice I can give is:
– Go to events and socialize with your peers.
– Use social media as a communication tool not only to connect with like-minded artists but also with your existing and/or potential clients to exchange ideas and get insights.
– Go out and speak about your work. This is the best way to connect and meet new interesting people outside of your existing networking group that will benefit you in the long term. I am speaking from my own experience. It is always challenging to do it for the first time, but it is worth all the efforts.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work has been published in many national and international magazines which you can look up on our website www.pfunerdesign.com.
Design projects are also published on all social media channels, such as Facebook, twitter, Instagram, Houzz, Pinterest, LinkedIn @pfunerdesign.
Also, you can check out some YouTube videos searching for Pfuner Design. Periodically, I have speaking engagements where I educate people how to incorporate elements from Feng Shui, Holistic Design, and Zen Design in their interior for a healthier lifestyle.
