Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Skyfer.
Nia, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My name is Stephanie Concepcion, but I am known as my artist name Nia Skyfer. I was born in Cuba and came to the US when I was 10. Ever since I was eight years old, I wanted to be a singer. I started having singing lessons at the age of 16. By the time I was in College I studied Architecture for two years but dropped it once I realized I wasn’t getting enough time to do what I love, which is music. Currently, I study music and have dedicated myself to this path a hundred percent.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a singer-songwriter in both English and Spanish. I write and sing to inspire. The goal is for my listeners to identify and relate to my music. I want others to feel that no matter what they are going through they are not alone. To share stories and personal experiences through the art form of music.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
I strongly believe that it’s much easier for artist nowadays. At least for singers, there’s plenty of opportunities to spread one’s music. From social media to reality tv competitions that encourage performers to participate. Also there’s a lot more room for independent artists, which means more creative freedom by not having to be tied to a label to guarantee success.
