Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Pimentel.
Karina, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born in Barranquilla, a beautiful city on the coast of Colombia. My upbringing was full of music and rich in culture, very family oriented, and with a yearly Carnaval that filled our streets with lively people in colorful costumes. I started singing at eight years old and remember writing my first song that year, which I recorded myself in a cassette player with a boombox.
My family moved us to Miami Florida in the year 2000 where I went to school, continued singing in the choir, at all the talent shows, and with a local girl group. After I graduated high school, I went to Florida International University business school, and at the same time started playing lead vocals with my 1st live cover band “Jamm”. Being on stage performing quickly became my new passion! We played weekly gigs all over, and I felt like the luckiest 20-year-old ever!
Since I loved writing songs, I began learning about music production, set up my own home studio and wrote over a hundred songs that I recorded over time… A few years later I moved on to play my own original music with another band “No Line” and eventually went solo to experiment with my own styles and collaborate with other talented local musicians.
As a Latina and music lover, I was always naturally a dancer, and it is still a huge part of my life. Besides singing I also loved doing shows with different entertainment companies in Miami, making videos, and being out in the Miami dance scene. I was honored to be chosen as the Queen of the Barranquilla Carnival in Miami 2015 USA. I also developed a new passion for Aeria Silks and Acro Yoga which continues to grow every day! My new mission became to incorporate all my imagination and talent into a new creative project that promotes consciousness, and advocates for animal rights and environmental issues.
That is how my new blog “Balance Your Universe” was born in 2017.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I believe each human is its own work of art. Just being.
The way I choose to express my art is through music, singing, writing songs, dancing, making videos, blogging, doing aerial silks, and acro yoga.
Expressing my art has always come to me naturally, I do it because I believe that is human nature~ to express ourselves and our love through art. And the world needs more of that!!
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
I think all artist are connected in some way. We need to recognize we are all in this together and support each other in any way possible.
My advice is to not be afraid to reach out to other artists, ask them to work together and collaborate, be open-minded to new projects, and always respond when others reach out to you. When we join forces, then real magic can happen!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
