Today we’d like to introduce you to Josue Mendoza.
Josue, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was at a low point in life, and I didn’t have anyone to talk to about my issues. I found myself being very angry and depressed, with no outlet to express my emotions and thoughts. After I got suspended from school for being an idiot, my mom got very worried about me and sent me to New York for two weeks to try and find myself, and that’s exactly what I did. Every day for the two weeks I was in New York, my cousin who happened to be a creative woke me up every day to join him on his adventures to take pictures of different locations around New York. I fell in love with the adventure and the process of documenting anything that caught my eye. That trip saved my life, and after those two weeks, my life took a right turn, and I decided to become a photographer. When I came back home, I knew that this was the only outlet that could heal all the pain and anger I was feeling. Photography has been like my therapist ever since.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a photographer and a videographer. I use those two things to creatively express my thoughts and emotions. The only message I have for the audience is to always be creative, creating helps you find yourself in ways you may never think. Remember to always curate for the youth because they’re the future. The only thing stopping you from winning is yourself. The only thing I want people to know about my art is that it’s real and comes from a deep place inside my mind. I created my own world, and I live happily in it.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
The only advise I have for other artists that are just starting is to always stay true to yourself and learn to be okay with being disliked. Alot of people are going to try to give their two cents and tell you that your work isn’t up to par when in reality they wish they were gifted with your talents.
