Art & Life with C.r. Sten Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to C.R. Sten Garcia.

Sten, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was a down and out residential electrician with no direction in life. I had no sense of pursuing a dream; I had no way of knowing where to start even if I had a dream. However, rock bottom is a good place to be if you want to change your life. I was ready to leap into an unknown future because I knew it had to be better than where I was. So I quit my job and went full steam ahead on the things I was passionate about. The one that stood out the most was shooting video.

As a hobby, I always shot video of parties and vacations. I never thought I could make a career out of it, but there is no life in the shadow of a job that is not fulfilling on some level. I was a college drop out, and I decided to go back to school for video production. I was the guy that barely graduated high school, and here I am getting on the honor roll of an accredited art school, I mean it’s not Harvard, but I felt pretty dam good to be on that honor roll. I remember I bought my first video camera with the tax return from the previous year. The last year I would work as an electrician. With that camera, I began my business, and now I service video production for everything from cruise ships to fashion brands and a lot of weddings. Now looking to add a photographer to the team to continue expanding the different brands.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
At a very young age, I fell in love with the art of storytelling through video. Just like anyone, I love movies, and I guess that is why I started shooting video.

My video style is up close and personal. I love getting in and seeing details, the curves of the face, the way people move and how a subject interacts with light. There’s a big beautiful world in there, and I love to capture it. That is a big part of why I’ve been successful in the wedding video business in particular. Clients love how me and now my team of videographers capture moments and people.

I hope that my work inspires others to look deeper, to see how gorgeous the world around them is, even when stuck in traffic or in a line at the supermarket. The details are everything and life exists in those moments.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
The time is now. The absolute most important way to approach any project, any dream you have, any aspiration is by saying to yourself, “the time is now.” Get on track to pursuing the things you truly want to do in life. Put in the work and make it a thought every day that you must move towards your dreams even if you can’t quit your 9-5 right away. You skip happy hour, and you go home and start building on your dream. If that means doing research, working on your craft, opening the LLC, whatever it is, put in the work. Trust me it will pay off, and you’ll quit that 9-5 and never look back.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
