Beyond the Smile: How Dr. Julio Hernandez Is Redefining Beauty Through Whole-Person Care

After nearly three decades in dentistry, Dr. Julio Hernandez is leading a shift toward fully integrated care with his rebrand to Vikara — where dentistry, aesthetics, and wellness work in harmony. Recognizing that patients want more than surface-level results, he now focuses on the deeper connections between internal health and external appearance. Through personalized, regenerative approaches, Dr. Hernandez is helping patients move from reactive treatments to proactive, whole-body care — reshaping how we think about beauty, health, and longevity.

Dr. Hernandez, after nearly three decades in dentistry, what inspired you to bring dentistry, aesthetics, and wellness together under one unified brand?
After nearly 30 years in dentistry, I began to see a clear pattern.  Patients weren’t just looking for healthier teeth or a more beautiful smile, they were looking to feel better, look better, and ultimately live better. About 18 years ago, I expanded into facial aesthetics, and more recently into wellness and regenerative medicine. What became evident is that these disciplines are not separate, they’re deeply connected.

The rebrand to Vikara was inspired by this realization. It represents an evolution in how we deliver care. Instead of treating isolated concerns, we now address the entire person combining dentistry, aesthetics, and wellness into one cohesive, elevated experience. It’s a more complete, more honest approach to healthcare.

The rebrand to Vikara reflects a “whole-person” philosophy. How is this changing the way you approach patient care day-to-day?
It’s completely transformed how we evaluate and treat our patients. Today, every consultation goes beyond the surface. We’re not just asking what someone wants to fix.  We’re asking why those concerns exist in the first place.

For example, a patient coming in for skin concerns may also benefit from evaluating hormone balance, inflammation, or metabolic health. Someone with TMJ pain may have underlying airway or systemic issues contributing to their condition.

Day-to-day, this means more comprehensive diagnostics, deeper conversations, and highly personalized treatment plans that integrate multiple disciplines. It’s no longer about offering services.  It’s about delivering solutions that are aligned with the patient’s overall health, longevity, and confidence.

You’ve seen a shift toward internal health influencing external beauty—what are patients becoming more aware of today that they weren’t before?
Patients today are far more educated and proactive. They’re beginning to understand that beauty is not just skin deep. It’s biological.

There’s a growing awareness around how factors like hormone imbalance, gut health, chronic inflammation, and metabolic function directly impact how we age, how our skin looks, how our hair grows, and even how we carry weight.

For example, we’re seeing more patients who are using GLP-1 medications for weight loss, but they’re also concerned about preserving facial structure and skin quality.  This is what’s commonly referred to as “Ozempic face.” That opens the door for regenerative treatments like Sculptra or PRF to maintain collagen and volume.

This level of awareness simply didn’t exist years ago. Patients are now thinking long-term.  They want to age intelligently, not just cosmetically.

Your upcoming talk, “Beauty from the Inside Out,” highlights a broader movement. What key message do you hope attendees walk away with?
The key message is simple but powerful: beauty is no longer something we apply.  It’s something we cultivate.

I want attendees to understand that the future of aesthetics is rooted in biology. When we optimize what’s happening internally, whether it’s hormones, nutrition, cellular health, or inflammation, we naturally improve what we see externally.

My goal is to shift the mindset from reactive treatments to proactive, regenerative care. Instead of chasing aging, we can actually influence it. That’s an incredibly empowering concept for people, and it changes how they approach their health and their self-care.

As advancements in regenerative medicine and integrative care continue to grow, where do you see the future of aesthetics and healthcare heading?
We are moving toward a model of healthcare that is predictive, personalized, and regenerative.

In aesthetics specifically, the future will rely less on artificial corrections and more on stimulating the body’s own ability to heal, restore, and maintain itself. Treatments like PRF, exosomes, peptides, and biostimulators are just the beginning.

We’ll also see a stronger integration between medical testing and aesthetic outcomes. Things like bloodwork, genetic markers, and body composition analysis’ are guiding treatment decisions in a very precise way.

Ultimately, the line between healthcare and aesthetics will continue to blur. The most successful practices will be those that understand that beauty, health, and longevity are all part of the same conversation—and that’s exactly what we’re building with Vikara.
