Who taught you the most about work?

Society has its myths about where we learn – internships, books, school, etc. However, in our conversations with some of the most interesting and trailblazing entrepreneurs and creatives we noticed the biggest lessons they learned about work often came from unexpected sources. We’ve shared some of those responses below.

The person who taught me the most about work is my father. He wasn’t an artist, but his way of approaching life was deeply creative—rooted in persistence, integrity, and care. Healing has always been a part of my life. Growing up, I watched my mom dedicate over 35 years to the art of massage therapy, and her passion inspired me from a young age. My family taught me the true meaning of hard work and what it takes to be successful. I come from a long line of blue-collar, hardworking men and women. My great-grandfather was a bricklayer, one grandfather worked as a tin knocker for Grumman aircraft, the other was a truck driver for the Daily News, and my father is a glazier. Read more>>

Dr Ivan Rusilko

Surprisingly, I think my dad gave me the best piece of advice accidentally. My father was a simple man who did extraordinary things in the universe he lived in. A coal miner’s son who used an outhouse until he was 18, he was the first in his city to graduate high school, go to college, and even become a doctor (chiropractor). Read more>>
