Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaakira White.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shaakira. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I believe that the groundwork for my businesses was set throughout my childhood but officially, I began my journey in 2014. That was the year I decided to start my blog (From Queen to Queens). Shortly after that I started my apparel line, Shaakira White apparel which is based in providing inspirational and encouraging clothing and t-shirts for women.
In 2016 I began my career on YouTube and have acquired over 10,000 subscribers and over 860,000 views. YouTube really solidified my place as what people call an “influencer” although I strongly dislike that term. Some people were so interested in what I had to say that they urged me to start a Podcast show and eventually I gave in. April 26, 2018 I launched Carefree Black Girl Diaries, a podcast serving as home to all things Black and Carefree. Over the past 3 months we’ve amassed 5,000 plays and are available on major platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Anchor, Radio Public, Google Podcasts and more.
I’m extremely proud of all of my endeavors but what makes me the proudest is the feedback I get from people saying that I’ve helped or encouraged them through my work.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It most certainly has not been the smoothest road. I think with most things in life you’re bound to face some road blocks but the best part is getting over them. When you look back it’s so encouraging to see how far you’ve come.
Issues I’ve faced have been from things I just had to learn along the way but these are all things that come with being a business owner. Ordering too much product and sometimes not ordering enough product. Learning the needs and wants of my target market was a tricky thing for me too because I often have to step outside of myself and what I would want to understand what others may want instead.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I always find this question hard to explain because I have so many different endeavors but they all align in some way. I guess you could say that I am the common denominator in all of my businesses. So, instead of giving you a run down on all of them, I will give you the info on me. I’m known for encouraging others to be their best selves and approaching life with a fearless disposition. In everything I do, whether it’s YouTube, Podcasting, Blogging, or Apparel, I want others to find inspiration or encouragement in some way, shape, or form.
I’m most proud of the amount of people I’ve reached over the past 4 years and I believe what sets me apart from others is that when I do what I do, it’s always with the receiver or end user in mind. I try to always think of what they may need to hear or see at this point in their lives and if I can be the one to provide that to them, I will.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was extremely creative and intuitive. I observed everything around me and used my observations to fuel my creativity. I loved clothing, music, movies, and everything a typical girl would love growing up.
I remember I used to draw shirts on printer paper and write little quotes on the shirts as if I were designing them. Now, 13 plus years later I’m actually doing that. Everything really does come full circle.
